Dato' Abu Bakar bin Hassan ("Dato' Abu Bakar") started his career in 1979 as Assistant Secretary under the Ministry of Works. Dato' Abu Bakar was Chief Assistant Director in Implementation and Co-ordination unit of the Prime Ministers Department in 1983 before assuming the role of Chief Assistant District Officer of Selangor Land and District Office in 1987 until his leaving in 1992. In 1998, he was also the Chief Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. Dato' Abu Bakar joined Negeri Sembilan Government Secretary Office as Deputy Director of Lands and Minerals before leaving the office in 2002 as Director of Lands and Minerals. Dato' Abu Bakar was the Penang Island Municipal Council President in 2005. He left the position to join the National Housing Department in 2007 before leaving in 2009 as its Director General. Dato' Abu Bakar helmed the position of Federal Secretary to Sabah for 3 years until his retirement from public service in 2015. He is presently a Director of a private construction company. Having amassed more than 30 years of valued experience in land administration and development, management of local government, and private and public sectors housing developments, Dato' Abu Bakar is also an expert in land laws. Planning and implemention of development projects, administration and development of lands and districts, budgets and financial plannings, management of local governments, management and development of housing sectors and land developments are among his fields of expertise. He was actively involved in examination of plans submitted by developers for planning approval and ensure that each application was in compliant with the planning guidelines.
