DRBHCOM TP RM 3.50

DRBHCOM / 1619 (DRB-HICOM BERHAD) - came back from DRBHCOM's AGM.
Here're some 15 points to highlight which I thought are important points:

Achievements
1) FY 2019 is the first time DRBHCOM reported profit before tax (2018 included the RM 1.1b government grant - without it, it would be at a loss) in the past 4 years

Proton (and Geely)
2) Proton doing very well in 2019. They launced 4 models this year and are voted #1 SUV, #1Sedan, #1 Service centre and #2 overall behind perodua. They were #4 less than a year ago. It's also noted that Proton is still loss making in FY 2019.

3) In March, Proton closed JV partnership with Al Haj to assemble and market Proton in Pakistan. In the agreement, DRB will not bear any capex for production line. Production capacity will be 25k per annum and Pakistani government will give incentive to Proton to be able to compete in pricing. In Pakistan, there are 17 cars every 1000 people.

4) Now DRB exports to Egypt Brunei Bangladesh, they target 1400 units of sale in 2019 but in the future, they expect international sales to constitute of 20% of proton sales. they have not move into China yet.

5) 3rd National Car Project - is not a threat as it's cars for export market while Proton is mainly domestic hence no significant impact if it ever takes off.

6) DRBHCOM carry 7 other brands in which there are 11 new models across Audi, Honda, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, VW and Tata in 2019.

7) AVIS also breached RM 100m in revenue and now moving into leasing plantation vehicles

8) DEFTECH revenue and profit is RM908m & RM230m, for FY 2020, there are another 98 units of AV8 Gempita left to be delivered with orderbook of RM 1.5b. Furthermore, DRB had submitted tenders for maintenance repair and operations for existing and new military vehicles

9) CTRM revenue and profit is RM953m & RM60m. CTRM is a leading composite aero structure manufacturer in Asiapac, and is part of global supply chain for Airbus and Boeing and tier 1 suppliers. Contracts and orderbook is not static as they're highly dependant on customer annual production and order but CTRM is venturing into sub assembly and looking to increase capacity.

10) MODENAS - Need to turnaround the motorbike business. They have ventured into JV with Kawasaki taking 30%, and hope that it will have impact similar to Proton and Geely.

Services Division
11) Bank Muamalat (70% owned by DRB) is doing well, jotting down highest ever revenue & profit in 2019 (RM 1.3b and RM 240m)

12) POS MALAYSIA: POS is suffering from tariff which have not been increased for 10 years, they have new management with initiatives to turn them around and are working with government to fix the tariff.

Properties Division
13) DRB is moving away from residential into industrial property and concession businesses. such as ICQS - this has 28 years concession. Cost is 385m, Revenue received thus far from phase 1&2 is RM 13.5m per annum.

Corporate Developments
14) Sale of Alam Flora should be done early next year, currently awaiting state authority. There are also many parcel of land which DRB are disposing, many are currently at state authority awaiting approval. It should be done early next year

15) DRBHcom moving from Shah Alam to Tanjung Malim. This will have a capacity of 250k unit capacity per annum. Currently it's involved in production of Persona, Iris and assembly of x70 CKD. Shah Alam plant"maybe" for sale

Summary
Overall, the new management team lays out a clear plan for the future, know where are their pain points (POS & MODENAS) and are trying to rectify them. They're also aware of future challenges (Electric Vehicle, competition from Vietnam).

It's no doubt that partnership with Geely had been a success thus far for Proton and the Group, although it's yet to be profitable. DRB have many quality assets and divisions imo, from Bank Muamalat to CTRM to Deftech to renown assembly line. DRB are also disposing alot of their assets and profit on disposal should be recognized in the future. All in all, came out from the AGM pretty satisfied.

AGM hint next quarter can do better as PROTON sales better than last quarter. More new model coming and going to export more to Asian market. Looking good ! POS will turnaround soon as will increase postage fees soon.
