KUALA LUMPUR: British American Tobacco (M) Bhd posted a third straight quarter of operating profit growth, as its main cigarette brands Dunhill, Rothmans and KYO gained market shares in their respective segments.

With the latest earnings, it announced a fourth interim dividend of 27 sen totalling RM77 million, to be paid on March 9. This means a total dividend payout of 83 sen for FY20, versus 118 sen for FY19.

To achieve its 2025 target it is estimated Malaysia will need RM33 billion (US$8 billion) worth of investments in its renewable energy sector. The expected investments would not only come from the government but from public-private partnerships and private financing.

The amount of non-performing loans (NPLs) reached a nine-year high of RM28.7 billion at end-2020, according to the latest data from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

From RM24.9 billion in September, total impaired loans rose to RM25.7 billion in October and subsequently to RM27.8 billion and RM28.7 billion in November and December respectively. The last time impaired loans reached this level was in 2011.
