Maybank Research House:-

1. We are confident that Malindo Air will be able to be profitable quickly (less than one year) on domestic Malaysia including the profitable Sabah and Sarawak and Indonesian routes given the strong demand and existing client base to tap onto.

2. The house adds that with the entry of Malindo Air, AirAsia's virtual monopoly ceases and yields are set to decline and profit contribution from AirAsia's biggest market will recede.

3. Note that AirAsia Indonesia's operations are significantly less profitable compared with its Malaysian operations.

So how now, folks?

1. Malindo's seat pitch of 31 inch is 7% roomier compared with AirAsia's and it provides complimentary frills such as light snacks, drinks, in-flight entertainment and uses the aerobridges.

2. In addition, we estimate Malindo Air's Boeing 737-900 aircraft has superior cost economics for flights which are above two hours against AirAsia's Airbus A320 aircraft,” Maybank says.

So folks, markets are constantly in a state of uncertainty and flux and money is made by discounting the obvious and betting on the unexpected.

2. EPF is investing your money by trading actively to support the price. Will they be able to bring back the price to 29/08/12 high?

Prices 1 Month: High Rm3.640 (29/8/12)....... Low Rm 2.820 (13/9/12)

3. Folks dated 27/08/12 EPF total shares interest was at 245,767,700 units only. But dated 14/9/12 a surprising increase of 26,294,400 units to 272,062,100 units and yet the price is still near the critical support level at Rm2.88.

1. The launching of Malindo Airways was most timely because Malaysia needs another low-cost carrier to break the existing monopoly by one airline. Malindo Airways has promised to charge low fare for its operations and plus free in-flight entertainment, a light meal, WiFi facilities and aerobridge in KLIA2.

2. Further, we cannot allow one airline to dictate terms to the Government and/or MAHB on KLIA2 or for whatever matters.

3. Now we have witnessed a real collaboration between NADI and Lion Air Indonesia in the setting up of Malindo Airways where there was no share swap and/or interference in the management of either company.

So folks, hopefully the little Napoleon in Khazanah would learn something from the spirit of this collaboration for whatever deals that it is going into in the future on behalf of the GLCs.

(The return flight saya tak tahu - usually they charge higher fares for the return flight).

3. Immediately Tony Fernandez received huge publicity and the everlasting gratitude of the people of Bali.

4. But did anyone stop and figure things out a little ? One million free tickets is a lot of flights. Considering an Airbus A320 seats 140 passengers, that works out to 7142 flights. If AA flew just one flight a day to Bali, it would take 19.5 years to give away all those one million free tickets to Bali.

1. Long upfront payment, inflexibly, inconvenience, risk of delay and poor service means that customers will demand a big price gap from regular airlines to fly AirAsia.

2. This means that eventually AirAsia will only be able to sell if their prices are very cheap and below cost. Passengers will look elsewhere when prices approach regular airlines.

3. A case in point is AirAsia’s cancellation of routes to London, Paris, New Delhi and Mumbai.

These are popular routes to densely populated cities which any budget airline should be able to work successfully.

AirAsia’s stated reasons like visa requirements and additional taxes do not make sense as they apply to all airlines and can be added to the fare.

The real reason as reported in The Star is that AirAsia is losing millions on these routes every month.

So folks, why can’t AirAsia raise its prices?

The reason it can’t is because passengers will flee to other airlines. They are demanding a price gap to fly AirAsia which the airline cannot provide and still remain profitable.

There you go!!
