My interpretation is as follows;

神秀说:“身是菩提树,心如明镜台,时时勤拂拭,勿使惹尘埃。"

One must constantly remind himself to stay clear of troubles

惠能说:“菩提本无树,明镜亦非台,本来无一物,何处惹尘埃 ."

One did not seek troubles yet he is troubled

popo92, about a third of my wealth is in stock investment.

I used to put 100% in stock investment but as the amount grew bigger, I bought some properties to diversify. I can't afford to take too much risk now.

After Jaks, I will reduce it down to 10% - 15%.

Thank you for your interest in my past experiences.

I started serious investing after the 2008 crisis. First I bought Harrison when it received a takeover offer of 1.25. One american aggressively bought 10% on the news. I knew it was too low so I bought at 1.20 and later sold at 4.

Then, I bought TWS at RM3 when MSM was taken from Robert Kuok. I knew the sugar price is going to rise. TWS has one of the only 2 sugar licences in Msia. TWS was later taken private at RM9.30.

About the same time I also bought Magnum when it was trying to relist its 4d business taken private few year ago. The relisting entailed CVC taking a stake in Magnum in exchange for its stake in the 4d business. Portion of the stakes must be place out to certain parties at the same price. Valuation of Magnum was kept at 8x PE, a low valuation to benefit certain parties. So, I bought at about RM2.20 and sold at RM4.10 before the listing of MPHB cap.

Then, I bought Dayang before the oil crisis at 1.40 but forced to cut off when the price fell back from RM4 to my cost.

Then, I bought Triplc on Jay's article. I went in at 1.50 and got back 1.95 thru distribution, and now waiting for the balance 1.00.

Now Jaks.

I studied each of my investment thoroughly. If you had notice, each of them was bought in anticipation of a bright future event. My investment success hinges on correct prediction of the future event. I have to take calculated risks. Jaks is no exception.

--------------
popo92 DK66 sifu, i am more interested to know more about your journey on investing. If i am not mistaken, last year i saw you wrote that JAKS is the only list in your portfolio. Can you share with me the portion of JAKS in your total wealth? a rough percentage will help a lot. I would love to learn more from your past investing counters too. You seems one who focus a lot. Appreciate if you would share with us.

Op3rs, i suppose if people sell out of profit, much less will curse me compared to those selling to cut loss. If I don't make a sell call, there will be people continuing to chase high. In the event of price correction, the effect will be devastating. In which case, my image will be tarnished from angel to devil.

Therefore, I think it is best to inform of a sell call.

Anyway, thank you for your opinion.

---------------------
Op3rs Dear DK66
As a reader that has benefited from your writing, I need to ask, why are you trying so hard to please everyone here? you know it will be never enough to satisfy everybody right? you have no duty to inform others about your selling. Let them decide themselves. Think of this, after you achieved your tp, you make a sell call, Jaks' price did not came down instead continue to climb up, you are gonna get cursed by everyone..

I made the following comment earlier about OTB and I m still having the same view that he is a very hard working guy.

Posted by DK66 > Apr 30, 2020 5:07 PM | Report Abuse

Newbie0916, Thank you for your good words.

However, I must speak what I had witnessed. OTB has put in great effort to learn about Jaks. He arranged to meet with insiders and sought information for his analysis. He emailed me numerous times to seek clarification for better understanding. He won't stop until I have explained to his satisfaction.

Hence, it is my opinion that he is not a copy and paste kind of guy.

------------
mantua39 It is good that you explained your investment dealings in Jaks but I feel that there was no real need to do so. After all, no writer of investment reports ever do so in any form other than stating that they have (or do dot have) any positions in the securities they report upon. Just sufficient report on your financial analyses as clearly as you can so that readers can use the info to make their own decisions to invest or not. Also no need to keep replying to people stating opposing views with any facts or data as backup other than spreading unsubstantiated fears that minority shareholder of IPP will cheated by majority shareholder or unlimited losses by Jaks in its Malaysian operations. If anyone has these fears, they should simply stay clear of Jaks rather than continuously looking for assurances that they will not be "cheated".

Dear All,

Even though the american owner of Mong Duong II has adopted the new accounting standard ASC606, this is not happening to JHDP. JHDP will adopt the same accounting standard as Vinh Tan 1.

I wish to express my deepest appreciation to Mr OTB for his assistance in getting the confirmation from the Vietnam auditor. Thank you

DK66 I am accountant, I know accounting treatment can have profound effect on the reporting of earnings especially when dealing with a transaction which spans as long as 25 years. Mong Dong II started operation in April 2015 and has written back as much USD203m when it adopted the new accounting standard in 2018 with USD40m increase in profit in 2018 alone as a result of change in accounting treatment.

Vinh Tan 1 is still using the old accounting standard. If JHDP is adopting the new accounting standard, It may be reporting higher profit than Vinh Tan 1.

DK66 I m surprised to see the short list of writers that KC is able to name. Some stopped writing. After going through the last weekend in Jaks forum, I completely understand why so few has chosen to write. It is because writers are not able to share freely at their own will in i3. They often face unfounded criticisms for trying to pump and dump. Their most convincing logic is why would anyone waste their time writing in i3 if not motivated by money. I won't rule out the possibility of some writers having ulterior motives, but not all. It is a great lost to i3 readers when good writers chose to leave to prove their sincerity. Who should be blamed ? We should blame the fear mongers and those tasked to destroy the reputation of writers so that they can buy cheap.

I was blamed for over promotion by writing too many articles, and sadly also blamed for no doing enough. I was demanded to do more against my will. Enormous amount of attack surfaced after my latest relative valuation article which attracted about 9000 visits.

A sad weekend for me. Why am I here ?

I m proud to be listed by KC in his article. Thank you KC.

An interesting and wise article by KC Chong, as always ! He also made some good commendations of various people who wrote and contributed positively in I3. Chief of these is DK 66...and i quote

" There are some good writers and individual analyst in i3investor too. DK66 is one of them who is an expert in project costing and financial appraisal of IPP, a good investor, with great humility too. Good job DK, Jie Yu! Choivo Capital, although a young man very assertive and hence may have offended many people, is knowledgeable and good analysis and a great writer too. I believe he has done reasonably well too in his investment. Investbullbear has written a lot of good articles too. Ricky Yeo, a widely read young man, is another one whose articles many people can learn from, including myself. Pity we do not see his articles any more nowadays. My good friend Yi stock has written good analysis of some stocks but also don’t see him writing any more. Anyone interested in stock analysis can also refer to Icon8888. Many of his stocks write-up are good too. There is another good contributor, teoct who has written some of the best articles on QL and I remember a man of great humility too. Not forgetting someone named Philip, appears to be very good in qualitative analysis of business.

The above are just some of the good writers and analysts one can follow in i3investor for free. The list above is not exhausted. There are many more, and sorry if I forgot to mention. "

2) that when my set TP is reached , i will complete my journey with Jaks with a sell call and readers here will be duly informed .That is my promise .

This is a fair statement.

My opinion is that without the actual result from JHDP, Jaks will not command a very high PE.

My advice is employ a margin of safety if you should decide to buy.

-----------------
i3lurker purebull

it is the market interpretation of those results.

people doubt that market will ascribe high value to Jaks $

=> Even if $ is high, market will ascribe lower PE maybe 6 X

and that PE 6X while profitable for early buyers, will mean late entrants newbies may actually lose money.

sarifah, personally, I have found myself a better place of confidence with relative valuation. I will not linger on IRR anymore than I already have. IRR is not so simple. That is facts.

You owe yourself a duty to seek confidence.

Maybe can get your girls to help out on Jaks ?

Stock

2020-05-11 14:23 | Report Abuse

sarifah, to accurately use IRR, you need to have the following information,

1. the actual initial outlays (project cost may not equal actual outlays)
2. whether interest costs should be included (some text books suggest NO)
3. what interest rate to assume
4. the actual loan tenure ( max 18 years)
5. the repayment pattern
6. the depreciation policy
7. the maintenance cycle ( expected a major maintenance every 3 years)
8. the plant efficiency as it affect energy payment
9. the electricity demand
10. the expected electricity production

It is not enough to just confirm whether it is 12% project or equity IRR.

Do you think Andy will tell you exactly how the IRR is calculated ?
