KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 23): Protasco Bhd ( Valuation: 1.40, Fundamental: 1.40) has secured a three-year contract worth around RM75 million from Ministry of Works Malaysia to provide forensic engineering services.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Protasco said its wholly-owned subsidiary Kumpulan Ikram Sdn Bhd has received a letter of appointment from the ministry for its appointment as the service provider.

Ikram is to provide forensic engineering services on slopes and slope related structures for a period of three years, with an option to renew for a further period of two years, at an estimated contract price of RM25 million per annum, subject to actual consumption to be consumed by the Ministry pursuant to the Master Service Agreement.

"Under the agreement, the services to be provided by Ikram, with effect from Jan 1, 2016, shall cover all slopes failure throughout Malaysia except for Federal roads, roads that are currently under privatised concession agreements (toll roads) and those pending completion by the government or government agencies," the filing read.

Protasco expects the appointment to contribute positively to its future earnings and net assets.

The counter was trading at RM1.61 at market break, up one sen or 0.63%, giving it a market capitalisation of RM537.5 million.

road construction and maintenance firm Protasco Bhd has bagged a RM300.5mil contract to build residential properties also under the PPA1M.

In a filling with Bursa Malaysia, Protasco said its wholly-owned subsidiary has received a letter of award from Perbadanan Putrajaya to construct 1,100 houses for PPA1M.

It said while it was expecting the project to contribute positively to the group’s future earnings, it would not have any material impact on the net assets and earnings for the financial year ending Dec 31.

Protasco said the firm had been appointed to construct 1,680 apartment units under PPA1M in Putrajaya in 2013.

“In September, the project, with a value of up to RM578.5mil, was about 39% completed,” it said in a statement yesterday.

Under the PPA1M, the Government aims to build 100,000 housing units throughout the country for civil servants.
