As a East Malaysians (who have always coexisted peacefully & understanding with multiracial and religious society), when I first come to know that we are joining Malaya, Sarawak, and Singapore to become a new nation named Malaysia, I along with most of the other East Malaysians who understood that mean independence from the mainly racist British with big superiority complex.
However, now since 1963, I and the same group of people feel we are still under colonial rule from Malaya. Our state of Sabah (and Sarawak) is bigger than Peninsular Malaysia BUT yet we are counted as only ONE state each while Malaya has eleven states and two FT. This means both Sabah & Sarawak has very much less political power.
However, through some ill-conceived Federal schemes in increasing the population of Sabah, the largest UMNO members in Malaysia are from Sabah (numbering over 600K). In time to come, due to their membership & delegate numbers, the future PM of Malaysia will be from Sabah...and we really don't have any Malayan type Malays living in Sabah.

Corruption in our government is so widespread and for so long that we Malaysian are immune to and, in fact, expect & accept that despicable practice as facts of life in our Malaysia.
In just two major government projects that I was directly involved in, at least rm150m were marked up to the main contractor who carried out absolutely no part of the contract works but simply negotiated the contract value, submit monthly/interim billings (submitted by their sub, sub-sub, and sub-sub-sub contractors) and take their cuts from payments.

That's RM150m on just two government contracts and there are of thousands of government contracts nationwide. So how much money was actually wasted on government contracts since independence?

Yes, indeed, Tungku Razaleigh & TS Rafidah are very correct as all the very important posts and positions in our Malaysian government & sector are occupied by Malays (though some are very funny looking Malay looking more like Arabs, Chinese, Indians, etc than the typical Malay features) and so where exactly are the perceived and imaginary threats to the Malays?
The way some of our politicians talk, it seems as though our Malaysia is a superpower country and not, in reality, just merely the size of some minor province in China or a small state in the US.
With fast changing global economy and other emerging market economy that have overtook our Malaysia economy, I really wonder what we will have left to sell/offer to the world in 20-30 years from now?
Our PM recently made a statement in the US that Malaysia is still on track for a "high income nation" by 2020. I really would like to ask our PM just how exactly is he and his government are going about in achieving that feat without some real economic growth?
What exactly are Najib's economy plans to simulate real economic growth to propel our country into a developed nation status?
So far it's all talk and more talk with no real concrete action in addressing our fast dwindling resources. Technologically, our country is quite a distance from most of our neighbors and global market competitors. Our biggest trading partner China is heavily investing in South America and Africa to secure and insure their raw material requirements which basically mean our Malaysia will have very few items that other countries will need from us in the not too distance future.

Mr. Khoo, along the same line as you, I too have envision to use the fortune that I would have made in the forex market to help the very poor in some backward villages in the state of Sabah...e.g better & safer hostels, further education for the deserving and aspirating students, small start-up businesses for the really poor, etc...BUT through some very bad miscalculations and mistakes I lost my entire investment funds when Putin defies the Western countries & the US over the Ukraine. The fast depreciation of the Russian Rubles killed off not only my entire investment funds but my vision.
So, it is most heartening to know that other Malaysians like you too are willing to use their fortune to help upgrade our less fortunate people.

Mr. Khoo, you have the elements of what life is all about. Most unfortunately, most humans live and die without knowing why because they are so engrossed in making a living & surviving that they literally never ponder on why they live and what life is all about.
For you Sir, you are the lucky few who have found out that life is more than merely having made a fortune and leaving that all to your descendants. Before and after leaving this life, you will have helped to change for the better (hopefully) some other less fortunate person's life which in effect is giving them the chance to live and appreciate life before they too leave this life.
