Hit turbulence in 4Q23
Return-to-service maintenance cost caused 4Q23/FY23 results to come in below our expectations but they will normalise going forward. More importantly, fares are rising on reduced competition. Our FY24E/FY25E earnings are little changed on housekeeping (i.e. MYR2m/+MYR2m). We also introduce FY26E estimates. Our SOP-TP is tweaked up to MYR0.94 from MYR0.92. Going forward, we still expect future quarters to generate narrower losses and eventually breakeven.

A decent end to FY23
CIMBs FY23 earnings were above expectations, and we have raised our FY24-26E earnings forecasts by 4-6%. Nevertheless, our FY24E ROE of 10.5% trails managements target of 11-11.5%. Our TP is raised to MYR7.40 (+70sen), on a higher FY24E PBV of 1.1x (1.0x previously). A special DPS of 7sen has been declared. BUY maintained.

Yesterday we talked about DBS (Southeast Asia Biggest Bank) and Wilmar (World Largest Plantation by Market Capitalization) Dividend Growth.
Today we talked about share prices vs earning growth for CIMB (Bank) vs Sarawak Plantation (Palm Oil)
Over the last 3 years on average, CIMB Bank earnings per share has increased by 32% per year but the company’s share price has only increased by 12% per year, which means it is significantly lagging earnings growth. Meanwhile SOP palm oil plantation earnings per share has increased by 2% per year whereas the company’s share price has increased by 6% per year. Can you explain why the bank share prices is lagging with the earning growth?
Let’s analyse the situation for both CIMB Bank and SOP (Sarawak Oil Palms):
CIMB Bank: Earnings Growth: CIMB Bank has experienced robust earnings growth, with earnings per share (EPS) increasing by an impressive 32% per year on average over the last 3 years. Share Price Lag: Despite the strong earnings performance, the share price has only grown by 12% per year on average during the same period.
Possible Reasons: Market Sentiment: Investor sentiment and market perception play a significant role. If investors perceive risks or uncertainties related to the banking sector, it can suppress share price growth. Interest Rate Environment: Banks are sensitive to interest rate changes. If interest rates remain low or decline, it can impact net interest margins and profitability, affecting share prices. Regulatory Environment: Regulatory changes, capital requirements, and compliance costs can influence investor confidence. Market Perception of Banking Sector: The overall market view of the banking industry may not align with the strong earnings growth of individual banks.
SOP (Sarawak Oil Palms): Earnings Growth: SOP’s earnings per share (EPS) has increased by a more modest 2% per year on average over the last 3 years. Share Price Performance: Despite the relatively lower earnings growth, SOP’s share price has still managed to grow by 6% per year on average.
Potential Factors: Industry-Specific Factors: The palm oil industry has its own dynamics, including supply-demand fluctuations, commodity prices, and weather conditions. These factors can impact share prices. Investor Sentiment: Investors may perceive palm oil companies differently based on environmental and sustainability concerns. Market expectations: SOP’s share price growth might align better with market expectations for the palm oil sector.
In summary, while earnings growth is a crucial driver of share price appreciation, other factors such as market sentiment, industry-specific dynamics, and regulatory environment also come into play.
Market sentiment refers to the overall mood or attitude of investors and traders toward a particular financial market, asset class, or individual securities. It plays a crucial role in shaping price movements and can significantly impact share prices. When market sentiment is bullish, investors are optimistic about the future. They believe that prices will rise, and economic conditions will improve. Bullish sentiment tends to drive buying activity. Investors purchase stocks, leading to increased demand and higher share prices. Positive news, strong earnings reports, and favorable economic indicators contribute to bullish sentiment. The opposite goes with bearish sentiments.

Dividend investing is like planting a tree...
The earlier you start, the bigger your tree is going to grow.
And before you know it, you will be resting in the shade of your own financial forest, enjoying the fruits of your labor, year after year...
Why?
Because dividends... GROW.
And that's how some Dividend Machines reached their milestones in dividends.
For the past 10 years...
DBS (Bank) increased their dividends by 158%
Wilmar (Plantation) increased their dividends by 112%
So if you think $5,000 in annual dividends today is too little...
Your $5,000 'passive' income just became:
$12,900 if you invested in DBS
$10,600 if you invested in Wilmar
All you did is buying the right dividend stocks...

OTB I hope it is a good news to Yinson, the share price of Yinson failed to perform despite many good announcements previously.
I believe the PAT for FY 2024 result (Jan 2024) to be released in March 2024 will be very good.
I expect the PAT to be around 1 billion.
No many companies listed in KLSE able to report 1 billion PAT.
Hope for a better luck for Yinson in 2024.
AmInvest recommended a target price of 4.00 for Yinson in its latest report attached.

FAANG is an acronym that stands for five major, highly successful US tech companies:
• Facebook (now known as Meta)

• Google (now part of Alphabet)
Maybe its time to change the FAANG to MaaNa... our daily need.
29/02/2024 8:28 AM
Yes lah xiaochen!
Totally in line with you..
Microsoft (MSFT) and Nvidea (NVDA) are not traditionally part of the FAANG group. However, there are reasons why both Microsoft and Nvidea are not part of FAANG:
Historical Origins: The FAANG acronym was popularized. Initially, it was just FANG (Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, and Google) in 2013. Later, Apple was added to the group, making it FAANG in 2017.
Microsoft’s and Nvidea Omission: While it’s clear why Netflix was included (due to its impact on media consumption), the reason for leaving out Microsoft and Nvidea remains less evident. Microsoft and Nvidea are undoubtedly on the same level as the other FAANG companies. MSFT market capitalization as an example is larger than most FAANG members, nearly 10 times that of Netflix.
Yes Lah New Acronym: MAMAAN:
The new term is “MAMAAN”, which stands for Meta (formerly Facebook), Alphabet (Google), Microsoft, Amazon, Apple and Nvidia. Netflix should now be excluded because its market cap is significantly smaller compared to the other mentioned companies.
Haha thanks to xiaochen, Microsoft and Nvidia is now features in the MAMAAN group alongside other tech giants..hihihi

Last night Nvidia closed USD 776 down by more than 3% from last Friday. NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) has gained significant market value, surpassing the FAANG stocks (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, and Google).
In summary, NVIDIA’s remarkable ascent has positioned it as a formidable competitor, and Apple’s market dominance could be challenged in the near future. Mabel plan to hold the remaining Nvidia share since she believes AI will evolve and play a big role in this coming decades.

There are three key Pillars in running a business, Income Statements, Balance sheets and Cash flow Statements and Tony is managing this business, totally outside the box.
Let’s explore how Tony Fernandes and Capital A International (previously known as AirAsia Group Berhad) are interconnected in the context of the AirAsia brand and its business:
Tony Fernandes is a prominent entrepreneur and co-founder of AirAsia. He acquired AirAsia in 2001 and transformed it into a global airline, democratizing air travel in the Southeast Asia region. Under his leadership, AirAsia grew from just two planes to a fleet of 242 aircraft, making it Asia’s largest low-cost carrier and one of the strongest airline brands globally.
Role in Capital A: Tony Fernandes now leads Capital A International (CAPI), a global brand management platform. CAPI specializes in the expansion, management, and licensing of the AirAsia brand. His vision is to capitalize on AirAsia’s brand value through additional licensing and to deploy proven strategies to promote Asean brands globally.
Capital A International (CAPI): CAPI leverages the expansion, management, and licensing of the AirAsia brand. It serves as a dynamic global marketing catalyst for Asean brands. CAPI aims to consolidate both long and short-haul airlines under the AirAsia brand.
Business Combination: CAPI finalized a business combination agreement with Aetherium Acquisition Corp (a Special Purpose Acquisition Company or SPAC). This agreement allows CAPI to be publicly listed in the U.S. stock markets. The proposed transaction represents an enterprise value of approximately US$1.15 billion.
Gateway for Investors: By investing in CAPI, global investors gain access to the growth potential of the massive 680-million-strong Asean population. Asean is on track to become the world’s fourth-largest economy by 2030.
In summary, Tony Fernandes, with his remarkable track record in the aviation industry, now leads Capital A International, which continues to champion the AirAsia brand and expand its influence globally

#JrWarren Conclusion:
1. CAP A reduce the accumulated loss by RM4.5b and USD150m loan transferred to USA company.
2. Existing CAP A shareholder is likely getting USA company new share, I guess the ratio is 4 existing CAP A share to 1 new USA share. USA company not a CAP A subsidiary as the shareholding is less than 51%, so the above 4.5b loss will not show at CAP A balance sheet.
3. 1% of CAP A revenue will go to USA company, roughly RM130M (or USD27.1M) cash confirm masuk pocket based on 2023 estimated revenue of RM13b.
4. Since CAP A cant pay dividend now due to negative networth, I think this is the alternative way to reward shareholder with cash.
5. Learn how AA makes money: https://i.imgur.com/8K1weV2.png
6. CAP A changing operating strategy and wanna transform Malaysia / Thailand into second Dubai (AKA ASEAN international transfer hub), the strategy will increase the group revenue in near future.
7. Flight traffic is expected to increase by a lot in ASEAN region due to China de-risking policy. AA aggressive flight expansion to cater regional demand increased and keeping the advantage of economic of scale operation.
8. B40 & M40 remain as CAP A target customer, so AFFORDABLE ticket is important

YTL Power International Bhd (YTLPOWR, 6742)
We believe the buying interest of YTLPOWR has returned after it broke out from its one-monthbullish flag pattern last Friday. Higher trading volume sent the share price to bounce off the 20-day EMA line on the back of fresh uptick in the RSI, signalling bullish momentum is picking up further.
We expect the rising momentum is set to steer the stock higher and test the next level of resistance of RM4.25 (R1) and RM4.40 (R2) in the near term. On the downside, stop-loss is set at RM3.62, below the 22 Jan’s low.

Maybank gave a revised TP of MYR5.05
PCHEM’s 4Q23 results missed expectations. We cut our FY24-25E EPS by - 33%/-37% to account for:
i) lower EBITDA margins for its O&D segment;
ii) post results house-keeping; and iii) incorporating Pengerang ops beginning
2H24. With that, our TP is lowered to MYR5.05 (from MYR5.75) after rolling
forward valuation to FY25E (from FY24E) based on 18.1x PER (previously
16x), its updated 5Y mean. Maintain SELL.

4Q23 missed expectations but DPS was in-line
Ex-one-off (MYR78m inventory write down to NRV), 4Q23 core net profit was MYR161m (-61% QoQ, -81% YoY). FY23 core earnings of MYR1,774m (-69% YoY) was only 86%/82% of ours/consensus estimates.
Key variance against our forecast was due to: i) unexpected shutdown at PC Aromatics and slowdown at PC Olefins due to steam interruption issues, resulting in lower production & sales volume in 4Q23; and ii) crimping of EBITDA and
PAT margins due to operating leverage (lower sales volumes), coupled with
higher maintenance costs throughout the quarter. A 2nd interim 5sen DPS
brings FY23 DPS to 13sen (62% DPR), well within our forecast.
PetChem declared a dividend of five sen per share amounting to RM400 million payable on March 26.
Total dividends for FY2023 came in at 41 sen per share, totalling RM1 billion.
Thank you PCHEM

What you share is interesting...
It is amazing to see TF is thinking outside the box to turn around Capital A.
As you said, "this is an old news that was published 5 years ago but still relevant as AA's fuel costs are priced in USD and air tickets are priced in MYR. It is a simple math logic. Last time they collected RM3.8 to pay for USD1 fuel costs and now they must collect RM4.8 to pay for USD1 of fuel costs. Our minister of economy has underestimated the devastating impact of weakening ringgit as our household debt has reached the alarming level"…
As far as Technical Cycle Analysis for trading, Capital A, above 0.88 is bullish, below 0.88 is bearish. Right now Mabel is waiting for the breakout signal. Can you enlighten is what you mean a key date to watch, total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024 will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
This is the 1st time Mabel see this kind of Technical Analysis..

The acquisition of a 50 percent stake in SapuraOMV by TotalEnergies has implications for Sapura Energy Berhad
1. Retained Stake: Following the deal, Sapura Energy will retain its 50 percent interest in SapuraOMV. This means that despite the change in ownership, Sapura Energy will continue to hold a significant share in the joint venture
2. Streamlining Portfolio: The agreement aligns with OMV’s Strategy 2030, which aims to reduce oil and gas production over time. By divesting its stake to TotalEnergies, OMV is streamlining its energy portfolio. This strategic move could potentially benefit Sapura Energy by allowing it to focus on other aspects of its business
3. Asset Value: SapuraOMV’s main assets include a 40 percent operated interest in Block SK408 and a 30 percent operated interest in Block SK310, both located offshore Sarawak in Malaysia. Additionally, SapuraOMV holds exploration licenses in Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand. The value of these assets and their growth potential will play a crucial role in determining the impact on Sapura Energy
4. Financial Implications: The deal’s cash consideration of US$903 million includes the transfer of a US$350 million loan previously granted by OMV to SapuraOMV. Sapura Energy will receive a substantial cash infusion, which could positively affect its financial position
5. Strategic Partnership: TotalEnergies’ CEO, Patrick Pouyanné, emphasized that the transaction anchors the company’s future growth in Malaysia and reinforces a strategic partnership with Petronas. Sapura Energy’s collaboration with TotalEnergies and its continued involvement in SapuraOMV underscore its significance in the energy landscape
In summary, while the acquisition introduces changes, Sapura Energy’s retained stake, asset value, and financial implications will determine the overall impact. As the deal unfolds, Sapura Energy’s strategic decisions and market response will shape its trajectory in the energy sector.

Why would Mabel want to follow Auntie hibernating for 7 years when Mabel has so many life fulfilling counters in Bursa? So unproductive debating with selective memories Aunty..
Just face it...Auntie is already finished both in PM Corpes and Serba...hihihi..
There are currently 3 types of Investors in Serba:
1. Bonus Issues Investors
2. Pre July21 Suspension Investors
3. Post July21 Suspension Investors
The one that benefits the most is Category 1 who was awarded Bonus Issues, Dividends and took price action during Dec 2020 rally. 2nd is Category 3 who took massive price action during July 2021 rally, Nov and Dec 2022 Pull Back. The Biggest loser are in Category 2 who like Auntie Huang freeze like Old Monks when they are supposed to take massive Price Action when it matters...Fool Time Trader

Unlike Sapnrg, Capital A does not fit the traditional Cigar Butt profile due to its active diversification and ongoing ventures.

Capital A (formerly AirAsia Group):
Capital A (previously known as AirAsia Group) has a history of revolutionizing the travel industry in Asia by making flying affordable for everyone.
While it has faced challenges, its transformation into a diversified group with ventures beyond airlines (such as food delivery and gateways) indicates adaptability and resilience.
However, it does not fit the typical Cigar Butt profile, as it is not a distressed company but rather a dynamic player in various sectors.

Boeings woes from half way across the world will limit the fleet growth of Malaysian carriers, in our view.
Consequently, we believe it is unlikely that the Malaysian aviation industry will experience overcapacity this year.
This will help airlines maintain a floor on fares but preclude MAHBs Malaysia passenger traffic from recovering to pre-COVID levels. We like non-Boeing operators CAPITALA and AAX. Notwithstanding the above, we still like MAHB for its potentially positive new OA.

Excerpts from CGSCIMB report
Singapore Airlines (SGX: C6L)
Upgrade SIA from Reduce to Add on likely strong 2HFY24F results, and our final DPS expectation of 40 Scts, implying a final dividend yield of 6.2%.
Pax demand remains strong, cargo yields rose sharply in Oct-Dec 2023, jet fuel prices have dropped, and a key competitor is struggling with capacity.
We raise our TP to S$6.91 on higher core EPS estimates, based on a higher CY24F P/BV of 1.2x (+2 s.d. above mean), from 1.15x previously.
Re-rating catalysts from strong pax and cargo demand in 2HFY24F
Singapore Airlines (SIA) is releasing its 3QFY3/24F (Oct-Dec 2023) business update on 20 Feb 2024. We expect SIA to deliver 3QFY24F PATAMI of c.S$800m, followed by PATAMI of c.S$700m in 4QFY24F.
Consequently, we forecast 2HFY24F PATAMI of S$1.5bn, slightly better than 1HFY24F’s PATAMI of S$1.44bn and higher than 2HFY23’s S$1.2bn.
The strong 3QFY24F performance would likely be driven by the continuing strong passenger airline PLF of 87-88% in Oct-Nov 2023 and which we think will likely keep yields elevated in 3QFY24F.
What surprised us positively was SIA’s strong cargo performance in the closing months of 2023, with average monthly FTK in Oct-Nov 2023 higher by 6% against the monthly average in Jul-Sep 2023 and the Oct-Nov 2023 CLF also 3.4% pts higher vs. Jul-Sep 2023.
We expect CLF to rise to 59% in the Dec 2023 seasonal peak (+4.7% yoy), due to robust e-commerce trade between China and Europe/the US.
The Baltic Exchange Air Freight Index, representing cargo yields, rose an average of 30% in Oct-Dec 2023 (vs. Jul-Sep 2023) due to the higher demand, albeit still lower on a yoy basis.
Disruptions in container shipping on the Red Sea/Suez Canal routing since mid-Nov 2023 as a result of Houthi rebel attacks, and the resulting lengthening of shipping times between Asia and Europe, may also work to the benefit of air freight demand.
Lower jet fuel prices; competitors’ capacity struggles; bumper DPS
Lower jet fuel prices could also help SIA’s results, having declined from a recent peak of US$128/bbl in mid-Sep 23 to US$100/bbl currently. We estimate that SIA’s all-in jet fuel price for 3QFY24F may still increase to US$114/bbl (from 2QFY24’s US$98/bbl).
Meanwhile, competitor Cathay Pacific (293 HK, Not Rated) is said to be struggling to restore its capacities, with the Straits Times and Reuters reporting that Cathay continues to face pilot shortages, forcing it to cancel flights in Dec 2023 and for the Feb 2024 Lunar New Year.
We expect a bumper final DPS of 40 Scts in May 2024F, in addition to the 10 Scts interim DPS declared in Nov 2023, taking the FY24F dividend payout to 53% (similar to FY23’s 58%).
Our forecast of 40 Scts final DPS implies a 6.2% yield, which is very good for a six-month holding period, in our view. Downside risks include rising competition as other airlines restore their fleet, and an unexpected surge in jet fuel prices.
Valuation/Recommendation
We upgrade our recommendation on SIA from Reduce to Add. We have recognised the strong revenue dynamics of its passenger airline business over the six-month period from Oct 2023 to Mar 2024.
