2017-0102: The Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association (MARGMA) has requested that the Home Ministry review the Employer Mandatory Commitment (EMC) ruling, which took effect yesterday, mandating that employers pay their foreign workers’ levy.

A couple of days ago, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that employers will henceforth be responsible for paying the levy for their foreign workers.

Zahid, who is also home minister, said employers will no longer be allowed to deduct from the wages of their foreign workers to pay the levy under the EMC.

“This is all too sudden, and is detrimental to medical device manufacturers who are already having to bear mounting production costs,” said MARGMA president Denis Low Jau Foo.

“The cumulative effect of the levy is a very hefty amount. We appeal to the government to nurture manufacturers to improve on the country's exports because we are facing acute competition from neighbours,” he told the New Straits Times.

[2016-1205] Karex expects to rise again
PETALING JAYA: Despite a drop in its financial performance in the latest quarter, Karex Bhd is quietly confident that it will pick up again in the year ahead.

“There was a delay in the delivery of some of our products. The reason was because there were quite a lot of stocks that were ready to go. It was registered but was unable to be shipped out to the tender market,” a Karex investor relations (IR) personnel told StarBiz.

“This delay, which is only by a few days, is estimated to be at RM13mil which will eventually be recognised. The tender market can be a bit lumpy to our earnings, as it is sold on a large batch basis,” he said.

Lower profit doesn't means bad things is becoz 2 new acquire companies in the same quarter 3 so it may caused higher operating & other expenses. If Ah Goh still planning to buy Ansell in this year then I think we better run 1st.

Ehh... I don't think the CEO will let it drop too much. Most of the fast developing/growing company needs more investment ($$$) from investor rather than loan from bank so pushing the price up maybe is the best way to attract investor to keep or invest more into the company.

Btw, Karex sekali acquire 2 companies in one year, it surely hard to digest sometimes.

Karex Bhd reported a 63.5% fall in net profit to RM8.14 million or 81 sen a share for the first quarter ended Sept 30, 2016 (1QFY17), from RM22.28 million or RM2.22 a year ago, due to LOWER FOREIGN EXCHANGE GAIN.

The LOWER PROFIT was also attributed to HIGHER OPERATING, ADMINISTRATION & ONE-OFF CORPORATE EXRCISE EXPENSES WITH THE CONSOLIDATION OF NEWLY ACQUIRED PASANTE HEALTHCARE LTD.

Revenue rose 5.2% to RM80.04 million from RM76.09 million largely due to the consolidation of sales from Pasante.
