The DJIA dropped 326.05 pts on Monday, after a much weaker-than-expected reading on manufacturing data as well as concerns over a slowdown in China, triggered the worst selloff in several months.

US manufacturers expanded in Jan at the slowest rate in eight months as the pace of new orders sharply decelerated, according to the closely followed ISM index. The ISM index sank to 51.3% from 56.5% a significant dropped of 5.20% in December. That's the lowest level since last May. MarketWatch had expected the index to dropped to 56.0% (-0.5%).

Investors will be watching the employment data on Friday very keenly, to see if there is a confirmation that v r somehow entering a soft patch. The main indexes ended Jan with the steepest losses in more than a year, as disappointing data fr China - which triggered selloffs in emerging markets currencies over the past two weeks - and worries of deflation in the euro zone forced investors to flee equity markets & seek safer assets.

TRADITIONAL ANGPOW HISTORY

The tradition of giving angpows has been brought down fr centuries,with roots dating back to the Sung Dynasty. The story behind the angpow begins in the village of Chang-Chieu in China during this time. Local folklore has it that a demon terrorised the village & even the finest warriors could not slay it.

A young orphan with an enchanted sabre managed to kill the beast. As a reward, the villagers gv him a red pouch filled with gold coins. The red pouch evolved to become the little red packet v hv today. The red pouch (angpow) given to the boy was also symbolic for further PROSPERITY, HEALTH & HAPPINESS that the villages wanted to bestow on him for his efforts & good deed.

Some numbers such as 3, 6, 8 & 9 r considered auspicious when packing angpow, where else odd numbers as a general rule r considered unlucky. At the end of the day, an angpow is a wish & a blessing fr the giver to the recipient. As such, dont let the amount u give or receive be a cause for discomfort or animosity. Whether u choose to put RM1,000.00, RM100.00 or RM2.00 in an angpow, the gesture is blessing - wishing the recipient more PROSPERITY, JOY, HAPPINESS & GOOD HEALTH in the new year.

FT yr query whether the disposal is good or bad. My personal opinion is dumping of huge volume of shares by major shareholders within two trading days is very unhealthy & is very unfair to the minority shareholders.

Recently v hv seen major shareholders of HEVEA continuously dumping their shares that resulted its share price plunging from high of 1.45 to 1.01.
