I have a different feel about you woh
You are good at making statements about things , most of the time negative
Apart from that I don't see you make much contribution to investing ideas

I have bookmarked this thread to read it thoroughly
Forcing myself to read so as to tap 3iii wisdom
Even though it is difficult to do (falls asleep after few minutes, due to ideological difference)
But I promise myself I will finish the whole thing . But need a bit of time

I am not saying that you should unnecessarily take on high risk for the sake of achieving high return. That is gambling mentality already
What I am saying is that jon's attitude of indifference towards huge capital gain is unhealthy
He should more proactively pursue it
2019-01-05 06:23 | Report Abuse
"Low risk" is a tricky concept
Those that don't take financial risk at young age will find themselves facing high financial risk when they are old
The effective way to eliminate risk is to grow yourself out of it, not by avoiding it from the very very early stage
2019-01-05 06:21 | Report Abuse
After you have grown big (at least few millions, sufficient for retirement), you can consider switching to the conservative approach like Jon doing now
2019-01-05 06:18 | Report Abuse
Equity is risky. In such an environment, offenses could be the best Defence. When time is good, you should grow yourself big such that when bad time comes, you have plenty of fat to protect your original capital
At least at the early stage of a lifelong wealth accumulation, that should be the way
2019-01-05 06:12 | Report Abuse
Not to say that jon's investment method is wrong. It is just not very suitable for him
Jon is too young, capital too small
He can't afford to invest too conservatively
2019-01-05 06:11 | Report Abuse
Yes. Jon will very likely underperform in bull and in normal market
That is the weak link of his investing model
Which is why I until now is still not convinced that it is suitable for him

hi Jon, if you need a decision tree to eat an egg, that means your character is naturally cautious. Then better stick to what you are comfortable with, ignore what I said.

I no eye see, throw aside and come back one year later
Hopefully there is still something there

in my opinion, you make a mistake by setting up this fund management toy for your relatives and friends
you structure the fund's remuneration system in such a way that you need to focus on capital preservation.
In a certain way, it restrains (at first I was thinking of saying retard, but better not) your intellectual development for investing
there is a big world out there. Better keep your mind open. Explore first before firming up your model prematurely

To cut it short, whatever jon call himself, it is Blue chip investing
We are small and mid cap investing

Like a doctor, I think I finally figure out Jon's style
It is called "fear of paper loss syndrome "
All stocks he picks must be so safe until very little chance of paper loss
Most of us are different. We tolerate our portfolio goes on a wild swing as long as it doesn't kill us, and hopefully pot of Golf at end of rainbow

good morning uncle koon, we love you

this lazycat totally not lazy, always sniffing around for ideas. I like
few reasons :-
(1) it was sold down drastically from 80 sen to 70 sen last minute before stock pick begins. So I opportunistically pick it. True enough, it now rebound to RM0.75, and I buta buta made few percent gain;
(2) it is not so susceptible to economic condition. So if this year economy not so good, it might be less affected; and
(3) tapioca price has come down so profitability should improve
http://www.thaitapiocastarch.org/en/information/statistics/weekly_tapioca_starch_price/2018
(4) of course it is a good company. I have it in my real portfolio. But my cost 80 sen instead of 70 sen. This stock is long term hold for me. I won't sell so easily.
lazycat icon8888 , why u 20% 3a?

Horrible kid.... only know to talk don't know how to listen
Next time your wife will give you hell
Choivo Capital Its cheap lah. Was looking at it a month or two back during 3Q.
I dont think the management is any good. They are similarly undervalued business, with much better management.
But 6PE. and roughly half book. FV for me is barely 1.2-1.3bil
Might be worth a 1-3% punt as an NTA. If they ever sold the stake, RM1.5bil for 20% of perodua is possible, and give out the full amount in div.
Would then go up to RM4 or more easily. But so many cheap NTA companies now also haha.

commonsense,
Stop trying to fry MBMR up in every single forum, by talking as if its gold selling at the price of lead.
You make me itch to balance the equation by talking it down like mad here.

Its at best a 30-35% discount to fair value.
I can name you at least 3 companies selling at 40-50% off fair value. And this is fair value derived from earnings.
If we go to RNAV, i can name you 10 at more than 50% discount easily.

QL earnings grew from 125 mil in 2009 to 250 mil in 2018
A growth of 100% over 9 years
But market cap expanded by 400% (according to yahoo chart, it went up from 1.6 to current 6.7)
Value creation for shareholders not so much by earnings improvement but more on PE multiple expansion
Same thing happen to TOP glove , vitrox, prestariang (before collapse) JobStreet
