Syed Saddiq sentenced to total of seven years in prison, two strokes of the rotan, and RM10m fine in criminal case of misappropriating Bersatu funds
By Tarani Palani / theedgemalaysia.com

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 9): Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has been sentenced to a total of seven years in prison, two strokes of the rotan, and a fine of RM10 million, after the court found the politician guilty of misappropriation of more than RM1 million belonging to the youth wing of his former party, Bersatu.

High Court judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid meted out the sentence on Thursday, after listening to submissions from both the prosecution and the defence.

Syed Saddiq was found guilty of all four charges — one charge of abetting Armada's former assistant treasurer Rafiq Hakim Razali in committing criminal breach of trust (CBT), one charge of misappropriation of party funds of RM120,000, and two money-laundering charges.

The breakdown of the sentences is as follows.
The abetment of CBT, framed under Section 406 of the Penal Code, provides punishment of a jail term of up to 10 years, whipping and a fine.
For this, the court imposed a three-year jail term, and one stroke of the rotan on the young politician, who is the president of the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda).

Meanwhile, the misappropriation charge, framed under Section 403 of the Penal Code, carries punishment of imprisonment of up to five years, whipping and a fine.

On this count, Syed Saddiq was sentenced to a jail term of two years, and one stroke of the rotan.
As for the two money-laundering charges, the judge meted out two years' jail and a RM5 million fine for each count.

Azhar said that the imprisonment sentences for these two charges will run concurrently, which means that Syed Saddiq will serve two years in total for the money-laundering charges.
The politician also faces two years of imprisonment if he fails to pay the fines.

A stay was granted, pending an appeal, and the existing bail of RM300,000 was maintained.

Haha 😂, all the countries below have a very small population compared to China which has the highest population in the world. Therefore after GDP divide by population = GDP per capita of China is very small lah. People usually see technological advances of nations in AI, robotic, blockchain technology, nanotechnology, microprocessor technology, quantum computers, scientific discovery, patents ownership, number of scientists per population, space technology, number of scientific research papers published are better predictors of a country progress lah, compare to monetary achievements with fiat currencies. TEL AVIV: An Israeli minister was suspended from government meetings "until further notice" on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said, after suggesting in an interview to drop a nuclear bomb on Gaza.

Heritage Minister Amichay Eliyahu, an ultranationalist politician part of Netnayahu's ruling coalition, told Israel's Kol Barama radio he was not entirely satisfied with the scale of Israel's retaliation in the Palestinian territory after Hamas fighters carried out a deadly attack on Oct 7 inside southern Israel.

The attacks killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians, Israeli officials say.

Israel's military campaign in Gaza since Oct 7 has killed 9,488 people, most of them women and children, the Hamas-run Health Ministry says.

When the interviewer asked whether the Israeli minister advocated dropping "some kind of atomic bomb" on the Gaza Strip "to kill everyone", Eliyahu replied: "That's one option."

Offended by 'low quality' label, Perikatan MPs tell critics it's Parliament Speaker's fault
Syed Jaymal Zahiid
Fri, 3 November 2023 at 3:30 PM MYT
Malay Mail
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 — Opposition federal lawmakers today faulted Dewan Rakyat Speaker and his deputies for making them appear “incompetent” at a press conference held to give Perikatan Nasional members of parliament the platform to defend themselves against public criticism of their performance.

Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin also appeared to suggest the “low quality” label given to his colleagues had likely stemmed from detractors' poor grasp of how the Dewan Rakyat works.

Hamzah alleged the quality of debate in the current sitting up to now is poor because Opposition MPs are prevented from effectively scrutinising Cabinet members, especially during Ministerial Question Time and the dedicated session for questions to be directed to the prime minister.

“I think the sitting procedures must first be understood.

“We noticed on social media people have questioned us and suggest we haven’t done enough to rebut explanations by ministers or the prime minister (effectively).

“We’re not trying to be defensive but the reports that paint us as being ‘schooled’ aren’t the case,” the Larut MP added.

North Korea sent a million missiles to Russia, South Korean spy agency says
Miriam Burrell

Thu, 2 November 2023 at 6:41 PM MYT
North Korea has supplied more than a million missiles to Russia to support its invasion of Ukraine, South Korea's main spy agency has revealed to lawmakers.

North Korea is suspected of sending short-range ballistic, anti-tank and portable anti-air missiles to Russia as well as rifles, rocket launchers, mortars and shells, South Korea's military told local reporters on Thursday.

In a private briefing with lawmakers on Wednesday, South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS) said that more than a million artillery shells have been sent to Russia since August via ships and transport planes, AP reported.

Exclusive: Chinese jet fired flares close to submarine-hunting helicopter in South China Sea, Canadian Navy says
Brad Lendon, CNN
Fri, 3 November 2023 at 5:15 PM MYT
A Chinese warplane fired flares in front of a Canadian military helicopter over international waters of the South China Sea last Sunday, an operation that Canadian military officers said was reckless and could have resulted in the downing of the aircraft.

“The risk to a helicopter in that instance is the flares moving into the rotor blades or the engines so this was categorized as both unsafe and non-standard, unprofessional,” said Maj. Rob Millen, air officer aboard the Royal Canadian Navy frigate HMCS Ottawa, the warship from which the Sikorsky Cyclone helicopter was flying.

The incident was the second of two encounters the Ottawa’s helicopter had with Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy J-11 fighter jets over international waters on October 29, which saw the fighters get as close as 100 feet from the helicopter, Millen told CNN in an interview aboard the warship.

in 700 BC there were no religion. People were still fooking in middle of streets

Hot Dog originated in Germany as early as 700 BCE. It is also believed that the first hot dogs were called ‘dachshund sausages’ and were sold by a German immigrant from a food cart in the 1860s in New York. And the very reason why these sausages were called so is because of the fact that these sausages were quite thin & long, just like the canine breed. However, it was a Polish immigrant named Nathan Handwerker who in 1916 popularised this snack by selling them for half the price of his competitor.
