Media is indeed plural. However, it is not wrong for the Chief Editor to treat all media as a collective noun that can be expressed as a singular. For example, we may say, "All of America is in mourning in the wake of the Las Vegas mass shooting". This can refer equally to all Americans in the plural or the entire population of America in the singular.
