The West forever wanted to impose their values or beliefs on others. Back in the early 90's, it was Tibet. Every now and then, their media or diplomats would condemned China and called for a safe return of the Dalai Lama to Lhasa.
The West gave up after almost a decade of trying to demonize and halt the progress of China. They then changed their narrative to Taiwan, Hong Kong and now Xinjiang. The West have been funding the separatists all this while. The Uyghurs separatists who went on a killing spree since 1992 to 2016 were all funded by the West.
Since 2017, there have been no terrorist attacks in Xinjiang. And that doesn't bode well with the West. A peaceful and stable China is no good for the West.
In the medieval time, they wanted you to believe in Christ. Blood were shed in the name of Christianity. Now, anything other than democracy is evil. Either you're with them or to hell you go.
