nice try calvin :-) ... looks like we are heading for a recession if Fed and BNM further increases rates, as this will bring down demand, and bring down consumer purchases, which will bring down demand for palm oil, and other as well..... brace for a prolonged downturn, preserve cash and take a rest from investing.... just my opinion

Two kinds of demand

1. Demand as a consumer discretion

Things we consume but which are not necessities will be affected like Luxury goods, expensive cars, and all other wants but not needs necessary for life and survival

2. Consumer staple or necessity

Cooking oil
all still need to eat food

Tooth paste.
Heard of Colgate palm-olive?
palm oil is used in tooth paste, shampoo and soap

Maggie and instant noodles
a basic survival food that contain 15% to 20% palm oil

Detergent
palm oil is used in detergent for washing clothes

Break fast cereal and Milo
Nestle in Malaysia is the biggest user of palm oil

Chocolate and cakes, cookies

Hershey in Johor is a very big factory using lots of palm oil

So for food and hygiene lots of palm oil will still be needed even in recession

others are

pet food
infant formula (has 25% palmic acid )
senior milk formula
ice cream
biscuit
bread
all got palm oil

50% of Supermarket got palm oil

and palm oil has 44% palmic acid while soybean only 11% palmic acid

So palm oil is cheaper to produce

Fed's problems was its own making and undoing

like Sri Lanka which banned palm oil and caused inflation to spike up from single digit to 18% which bankrupted it USA banning palm oil from ioi corp and simedarby plant is now wrecking havoc on its consumers by 18% (not the 8.3% inflation we hear)

Why is inflation so high in USA ?

Answer:

Because when USA banned palmic acid from Malaysia to protect it's soybean farmers in the guise of force labour it created horrible inflation

When USA banned palmic acid from ioi corp it has triggered very high food inflation for infant formula

palmic acid content in palm oil is 44%

baby milk formula has 25% palmic acid

as a result the factories that produce infant food formula cannot function

there was an outcry in USA due to lack of infact food by many mothers who have no time to breastfeed

Then USA Govt went to Nestle for help

Nestle as we know is the Biggest consumer of palm oil

thus by banning Palmic acid from Ioi corp and Simedarby plant the biggest palm oil owner on earth USA has to pay full price to buy from Nestle

Palm oil with 44% palmic acid is 4 times more superior and cheaper to produce

since they no want palm oil in baby formula

50% of USA supermarket products will use the 4x (times) more expensive palmic acid from soybean oil

USA inflation now spiked to 18% (not 8.3%)

that is why Fed has to raise interest rate to put out the inflation fire

how could canola flower (small like mustard seed) and soybean (a shrub) compared to palm oil (60 feet tall ) in it's prolific production of palmic acid ?

in Canada crops are like in tundra (small)

in USA (temperate ) shrubs

in Malaysia is equatorial forest with abundant sunshine and rain

Some oil palm refiners are having a bit of tough time today. Due to the high CPO prices, their working capital has increase 4 folds. Seeking loans to cover for this working capital have been challenging for some oil palm refiners.
