For traders:
Chinese companies especially distressed ones such as property are expected to submit their earnings before the deadline 31 March 2022. A lot of property companies could get delisted if failed to comply with regulations. CSI and Hang Seng could experience heightened volatility throughout this week.

Palm Oil Inventories in the world’s second-largest producer, Malaysia are forecast to 1.53 million tonnes, rising for the first time in five months. Exports are seen rising 6.3% to 1.17 million tonnes, in line with estimates from cargo surveyors showing a rise in shipments to top buyers India and China.

Exports rose at the back of strong demand for palm olein particularly in the Middle East and countries with large Muslim populations to meet rising demand ahead of the Ramadan fasting month. Countries like Egypt, Iran and Saudi Arabia which typically rely on sunflower oil had to switch to buying palm to meet the strong seasonal demand. Shipments of palm oil to the region will remain strong in April.

Global supply of sunflower oil has taken a hit after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine damaged port infrastructure and disrupted supply of the edible oil from the key Black Sea region, forcing buyers to seek alternatives. In April, a sustained rise in production aided by favourable weather outlook will keep prices under pressure, but the behaviour in crude oil prices will keep palm prices in check

Losses for the vital vegetable oil risk accelerating global food inflation that’s already running at a rampant pace. Buyers across Asia and Europe that are awaiting sun-oil deliveries are switching to alternatives soybean, rapeseed and palm. Yet those supplies have been limited as well by weather woes and labor shortfalls, sending prices to dizzying heights.

“We’ll have huge stock inside Ukraine, and no stock and no goods for the market outside Ukraine,” Osypov said. “It’s big damage for the food security of the global world, and a big problem with liquidity for the company and the farmers inside Ukraine.”

A gradual reopening of borders in Asia is fueling a hunt for trades that will derive the biggest boost from a recovery in consumption and investment. Soaring commodity prices will boost the coffers of exporters such as Indonesia and Malaysia although some analysts warn the damping effect on global growth may outweigh the positives.
“Higher commodity prices should be most beneficial to Malaysia and Indonesia’s terms of trade in the region,” the Goldman analysts wrote. “We think the won and Taiwan dollar should underperform given the expeditious pace of Fed normalization, slowing Chinese growth and persistent equity outflows.”

Never use foreign buying/selling as an indicator. Foreign investors are not the only "smart" money. Follow the footstep of local institutions and buy side analysts. Foreign sold down 99% on Monday according to MATPENET index.

Foreign investors just here to pump 1%-2% based on Ringgit strength and weakness. Their turnover is higher than pang72 for example. Haha

“Malaysian ringgit’s fundamentals remain supportive due to elevated commodity prices,” said Divya Devesh, head of Asean and South-Asia foreign-exchange research at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore. “We expect dollar ringgit to trade in a wide 4.20-to-4.30 range in the second quarter, before recovering toward 4.20 by end of June on the back of Malaysia’s very strong trade surplus.”
One of the worrying signs for the ringgit is the retracement in oil prices even as the war in Ukraine continues to
rage. Crude has dropped about 20% from its peak set last month as lockdowns in China have cut the outlook for demand. Malaysia is an energy exporter.
Taken together, the dovish central bank and the uncertain outlook for oil suggest the ringgit will have a difficult time making any headway against the all-conquering dollar

We like Kuala Lumpur Kepong the most among other large cap plantation stocks due to better ESG scores and less news heat/coverage. Furthermore, plantation stocks will likely see peak valuation by Q3 - Q4 2022 as Jun contracts expire. Technical wise, the upside risks for palm oil remain apparent.

In 2019, UBS said Malaysian economy is not going to recover for a long time as oil prices plummet since it was pegged to 70$ or 60$ per barrel (forgot the actual figure, but roughly the same number). Right now, fast forward to 2022, oil is trading near 120. With UMNO in power, the halcyon days of Malaysia will be back soon.

Thank god I left as a buy-side equity analyst right before the global market rout. Look at the number of retail investors who claim to be Warren Buffett on i3investor forum after winning a few thousands on the market. This industry is officially entering the last stage of sunset industry.

My prediction is that these 3 industries within finance will disappear soon:
1. Equity Research
2. Asset management/equity portfolio management
3. Sales and Trading (excluding Derivatives and complex structured products)
