KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 4): CIMB IB Research has maintained its “Neutral” rating on the Asean agribusiness sector and said Malaysian palm oil stocks may fall by 1% month-on-month (m-o-m) to 1.93 million tonnes as at end-September.

In a note Oct 3, the research house said a survey by the CIMB Futures team reveals a 1% m-o-m decline in crude palm oil output in September.

“We project that palm oil exports likely grew by 10.2% m-o-m in September, as strong uptake from China more than offset weaker India and EU demand.

“September production was weaker due to fewer working days as three public holidays were observed during the month.

“We maintain our sector Neutral rating and regional top picks.

CIMB Research’s preferred pick in Malaysia is Sime Darby with an “Add” rating and target price RM10, in view of expectations of a share price re-rating on the back of higher commodity prices and its plans to demerge and list its plantation and property divisions.

Sime Darby Bhd
(Sept 29, RM9.02)
Maintain buy recommendation with an unchanged target price of RM9.96: There are some key highlights from Sime Darby Bhd’s early shareholders’ engagement on the listing of pure plays.

Sime Darby Plantation Bhd will focus on organic growth with targets to: improve fresh fruit bunch (FFB) yield and the oil extraction rate (to 25 tonnes per ha and 25% by financial year 2025 [FY25] from 19 tonnes per ha and 21.3% in FY17) and bring down production cost at the upstream division, which would be achieved by maintaining its aggressive replanting activities (5% to 7% of planted land bank per annum with higher yielding materials), improving on the irrigation system and higher mechanisation; and increase profit before interest and tax (PBIT) contribution from the downstream division (to 20% by FY25 from 5.2% in FY17) by focusing on differentiated, sustainable and traceable high-value products and increasing its presence in key geographical markets.

Sime Darby Property will focus on growing recurring income contribution (to 10% of its operating profits by FY22) by increasing its portfolio of income-generating assets (via joint ventures), developing its existing land bank along key growth areas and economic corridors, and expanding its overseas property development footprint (by leveraging on its involvement in the Battersea Power Station).

Sime Darby will focus on motor and industrial businesses — which collectively accounted for 94% of its PBIT in FY17. It is worth noting that its industrial division’s earnings visibility has improved, evidenced by stabilising metallurgical coal prices, which have in turn resulted in a sharp increase in order book (from RM1.5 billion in June 2017 to RM2.2 billion in August 2017).

Post exercise, Sime Darby Plantation and Sime Darby Property will have dividend policies of a minimum 50% and 20% respectively. On the other hand, it is unclear if Sime Darby would maintain its current dividend policy of 50%.

Risks include a sharp fall in FFB output and/or palm product prices, prolonged weak demand for mining equipment and delays in property launches.

Our forecasts are maintained for now, pending releases of prospectuses and circulars (expected by end-October/early November).

We maintain our “buy” recommendation on Sime Darby, underpinned by its plan to spin off the plantation and property businesses, which would further crystallise Sime Darby’s deep intrinsic value. — HLIB Research, Sept 29

http://www.theedgemarkets.com/article/fbm-klci-slips-sime-darby-drop-foreign-fund-outflow

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 1): The FBM KLCI closed down 3.99 points or 0.2% partly on Sime Darby Bhd share losses and as foreigners sold Malaysian equities.

At 5pm, the KLCI closed at 1,743.93 points. Sime Darby dipped 11 sen to RM9.09 after Moody's Investors Service downgraded Sime Darby's issuer rating to Baa3 from Baa1.

"The rating outlook is stable. The rating action concludes Moody's review of the company's rating for downgrade, which was initiated on Feb 3 2017, after Sime Darby announced a plan to create three standalone businesses, by retaining its motors, industrial, logistics and other businesses and listing its plantation and property divisions on Bursa Securities Malaysia," Moody's said in a statement yesterday.
=====================================================================

Foreign funds are not in favour of Sime Darby's 1 split into 3. So how?

All kinds of talk is hopeless. Question, you are the oldest in the plantation industry hence why u are not able to get the yield similar to IOI, KLK or UP. Now talk of demerger, high yielding mayerial etc etc.
Main issue is make the mgrs walk in the field for 8 hrs supervision. Best manure for the field are the "managers footprints".......Unnecessary unproductive talking plenty of paper work. Reduce talking n paper instead all including the GM, directors must walk in the field where u find money.
Cacultate fir yourself for every increase of 1 mt of fruit per ha annum, what is the profit like. Always talking talking but achieve nothing

Value will also come from Sime Darby Plantation’s plan to improve its oil extraction rate and fresh fruit bunch yield. “They are planning to improve the OER to 25% and FFB yield to 25 tonnes per hectare, which will create value after the merger,” says Chong. “They are also doing some aggressive replanting to improve the age profile. The yield improvement will come gradually, though, as they only aim to achieve these targets by 2025.”

YIELD :
1. 10 yrs ago merging done to pay dividend of 50cts but failed hence the demerger
2.After merger they completed the replanting but could only get 20 mt so no 50 cts divudend n over head also very high like MAS so demerger.
3.At 20 mt my opinion they may pay divudend of about 20cts so share price may be about 3.00
4.High yielding seedling, each palm must be taken care like a baby which means for circle spraying u shd not spray but must do hand weeding to get optimum yield.
5.I want to hear talk like a) we want to ensure mgrs spend 8 hrs walking in the field otherwise we sack them b) appoint field audit assistants who shd be given IOI training n implement IOI standards c) Audit team shd report direct to MD.d) directors shd select certain estates n they themselves shd supervise the manuring of 100% supervision. Sure yield will increase n other estate mgrs who get lower yield may get worried?

Focus : With the demerger "Sime Plantation" will shoulder 7.78 billion of debts n more, also they talk of replanting, so what is the price going to be upon listing n how much dividend they can pay.

Sime Darby Plantation’s fresh fruit bunches for its financial year ended June 2017 was a blended 19.4 per ha per year. It is the highest in Papua New Guinea (PNG) where it has New Britain Palm Oil Ltd as its core holding generating almost 24 tonnes per ha. In Indonesia, the yield is 16 tonnes and with its tree profile ageing, there are plans to use the seedlings from PNG to hasten repla

Other plantation Cos' are in the 25-30 mt bracket. At 19.4 mt yield very low and not in the oil palm buisness @ 7.78 bln debts probably no didvidend

Answer : I was working with these GLC estates n what went wrong n what may go wrong:
1. Reduce paper work so mgrs n asst mgrs can spend 8 hrs in field supervision
2. I know of a guy who joined S from IOI as a Snr Asst but ran for his life back to IOI as the paper work is mountain high

Action to take:
A) Select certain estates n top employees shd personally check on field supervision
B) Employ fresh graduates n give them IOI training on weeding n fertiliser application n report direct to MD
C) Graduates also keep record of number of palms/ha n sterile palms
D) fix CCTV at office entrance to chk movement of field supervision
E) 100 % field supervision or SACK which is being done by IOI KLK UP that i know.
F) revebnue sure on the minimum can see an immdiate increase of 1 mt/ha/annum, 500,000 ha @ 1 mt = 500,000 tons of fruit @ RM700 cost of fruit per mt.
G) year in year out auditors come to estares n give report but still yield only 19.4 mt for a change these guys shd be guven wide powers to do field audit

X
When i was working in Kok Foh Estate 1970, Bahau , mgr an Australian white, 100% field supervision n if he finds 1 loose fruit in field he will not hesitate to sack. He says every loose fruit is the profit. With DxP material yield was about 24 mt n OER 24-25% this is due to nothing but supervision. Now i hear must get high yielding materials to increase yield. My advise to them pls go all out to check on supervision. All the merger n demerger becoz lacking in field supetvision

To me, the latest Q results are very suspicious. Seems like they have planned this "surprise" beat in earnings across all their divisions. Look at Plantations and Property. Seems like they just want to drum up prices ahead of the listing of the spin-offs in 2 weeks time.

Buyers beware is all I can say. Exercise caution!
