Malaysia Rail Link and CCC-ECRL set up measures to combat coronavirus
KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 29): Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) and China Communications Construction ECRL Sdn Bhd (CCC-ECRL) have set up precautionary and preventative measures to guard against the coronavirus.
MRL, the project and asset owner of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), and its main contractor CCCERL said they are taking preventative measures against the virus for staff who have just returned or are returning from China.
“An emergency management plan on contagious diseases control has been prepared before the Chinese New Year holidays and is now in place in an effort to keep contagious viruses at bay,” the companies said in a joint statement yesterday.
These proactive measures include thermal screening and health monitoring, which has been enforced at all ECRL work sites with workers who have travelled to affected areas in China being advised to not return to Malaysia until the outbreak has been brought to heel.
At the same time, both the MRL and CCC-ECRL refuted media and social media reports that a five-year-old child from China whose parents were attached to the ECRL project management camp in Kemaman, Terengganu may have been infected by the coronavirus.
“It has been clarified by the Terengganu State health director on late Monday that the girl only had common fever and sore throat,” said MRL and CCC-ECRL.
Bernama had earlier reported that Terengganu police had confirmed receiving a report to track down the child in question, after she was allegedly taken out of a Kemaman Hospital by her parents.
The report was made by a doctor who said upon examining the child he had detected symptoms and advised for the child to be quarantined and be observed at the hospital.
Stocks plunge in China over coronavirus fears. Stocks in China plunged in early Monday trading as investors returned from a long holiday to the prospect of the world’s No. 2 economy virtually shut down by the coronavirus epidemic.
Stocks in Shanghai opened 8.7 percent lower, while shares in the southern Chinese boomtown of Shenzhen fell 9 percent. The markets had been closed since Jan. 23 for the Lunar New Year holiday, and government officials extended that closure until Monday while the authorities dealt with the outbreak.
Other markets in the region, which have already digested much of the impact, opened lower as well. Shares in Tokyo and in Australia were down about 1.5 percent in early Monday trading. Stocks in Hong Kong opened about half a percent lower.
The damage could be confined to Asia. Futures markets that predict the performance of stocks in the next day forecast a positive opening for Wall Street and a mixed day for shares in Europe.
An American film that was shown in 2011 speaks of a Coronavirus-like virus that begins spreading from China to spread to the rest of the world!
The strangest thing is that at the end of the movie it turns out that the cause of infection is the bat, which is the same reason that the disease is currently spread !!
The movie’s name is ‘*Contagion*’. Directed by Steven Soderbergh. Starring: Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law & Gwyneth Paltrow. It can be seen on Amazon Prime & Netflix.
China, Malaysia restart East Coast Rail Link project after year-long suspension
DUNGUN, Terengganu: China and Malaysia resumed construction of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project in peninsula Malaysia on Thursday (Jul 25), after a year-long suspension and following a rare agreement to cut its cost by nearly a third to about US$11 billion.
The project was initially cancelled by Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who came to power after a shock election victory in May last year, as he followed through a pledge to renegotiate or cancel "unfair" Chinese mega-projects approved by his predecessor, Najib Razak.
But in April, the close trade partners agreed to proceed with the ECRL project at a cost of RM44 billion (US$10.7 billion), reducing it from RM65.5 billion.

ECRL station in Nilai will boost economy of local population
The construction of the East Coast Railway Line (ECRL) in the Nilai area will boost economic growth and population increase in the Nilai district, said the Nilai Municipal Council (MPN) president Zazali Salehudin.
As such, he said, as a local authority (PBT), careful planning must be initiated, including training skilled workers to support the development of industries that would grow in Nilai.
“As a local authority, we have to pay serious attention (on the construction of ECRL station in Nilai) as it could become an important transportation system for the movement of goods from the East Coast to the West Coast and subsequently, to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Port Klang.
“Among the things that must be given attention are road facilities, infrastructure, electric power and water supply. These must be adequate and in good condition, as Nilai is not far from Labu, which is part of the planned Malaysia Vision Valley (MVV) development project,” he told reporters in Seremban. Zazali, who is also the Seremban Municipal Council president, said industrial development would create more job opportunities and would certainly benefit the people in the surrounding areas.
“With industrial development, many jobs will certainly be created. We at the Negeri Sembilan government level must take this opportunity to provide skilled manpower among the local population...I feel we can plan the work movement or provide skilled workers for industrial development here.
“When there are many workers in this area, they will have families here and thus require housing, so new housing areas too must be planned to meet the needs of the future,” he said.
Zazali said the population growth in the area would also enable the local authority to collect more assessments, thus enabling the government to plan and give better infrastructural facilities to the local population.
Asked whether the location for the ECRL station in Nilai had been decided, Zazali said it depends on the state government’s decision to determine the actual location for the ECRL station in Nilai.
However, he stated that the ECRL station in Nilai had so far been planned to be built near the industrial area.
Last Wednesday, Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun confirmed that Nilai would be the second stop in Negeri Sembilan for the ECRL.
He said the ECRL station, which would provide passenger and transportation services, would be located near Nilai 3.

“Be greedy when others are fearful and fearful when others are greedy.' Easier said than done for the vast majority of stock traders. ... On every stock trade there is someone who wants to sell and someone who wants to buy, at least at a particular price. ...the person who is selling thinks that she is getting out just in time while the person buying thinks that he is about to make good money. ... The truth is that the market doesn't really reflect some magical perfect valuation of a stock under the efficient market hypothesis. It reflects the mass consensus of how actual individual investors value the stock. It is the sum total of everyone's hopes and fears...”

How does Coronavirus AKA Wuhan Virus impact Malaysia’s economy?
Basically, the outbreak of this virus all started at Wuhan on 31 Dec 2019 but what is this virus about? Coronavirus is actually a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).
It has been transmitted between animals and humans and have infected Thailand, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Singapore, Vietnam, US and even in Malaysia (Johor). But the million-dollar question here from this outbreak what are the companies that can benefit from this and what will happen to all the other companies that will be affected from this?
Firstly, we need to see the how does it impact our Malaysia economy before we deep dive in to companies. Well, to know the future we have to take a look at past records as it will give us an idea on what are the impacts, as you guys know the previous biggest outbreak was SARS which hit Malaysia on November 2002, it had case-fatality ratio registered at 40% at the end of the outbreak.

Lower GDP growth
During the year 2003 the after effects have been lingering and caused the economy of Malaysia to expand in a slower pace which they only grew at 5.9% at 1Q03 and 4.6% at 2Q03 registering a 6 quarters low. This is primarily due to the services sector, specifically wholesale & trade retail and hotels & restaurant sub-sector.
Lower number of tourists coming to Malaysia
Overall number of tourists in Malaysia dropped by 4% in 2003 and in 2002 dropped by 5.1% while it remained on a downtrend until 2005 which saw a drop of 2.6%. This is due to the fact that a lot of flights are cancelled or rescheduled to a later date.
Lower retail sales
Retail sales dropped all the way to -2.2% in 2Q03 and 2.0% in 1Q03. Lower tourists mean lower retail sales, shopping malls got battered by lower tourists coming in the country and spending money.
Impact on the financial market on 2002/2003
Shanghai stock market dropped 12.01% during mid-Novermber 2002 and dropped again by 110.96 points mid-December 2002 while KLCI dropped by 42.19 points, a 4.62% drop.
So, what about this round of outbreak? Will it be the same? Will see a sharp drop in stock prices in these few months?
Well, to answer that for me personally I will say “no one knows for sure”
We can not compare the previous SARS outbreak with this but since everyone is doing it. But in my opinion we should not be looking for stocks that will benefit from this and just sell our stocks that are the losers in this pandemic, as you can see in the picture below that after all that the market will still eventually recover, we just don’t know how long will it take.
Companies like glove companies such as HARTA, TOPGLOV, SUPERMX, KOSSAN, COMFORT has shot up in prices just because of this but on the contrary we need to also see is their price sustainable compared to their increased earnings in this quarterly report or not.
Remember this “In the short run, the market is a voting machine but in the long run, it is a weighing machine.” Quoted by ― Benjamin Graham
Target Price: RM0.125, RM0.135 Last closing price: RM0.110 Potential return: 13.6%, 22.7% Support: RM0.100 Stop Loss: RM0.090 Possible for bullish recovery. AGES is attempting to stage a potential breakout from its consolidation phase. Improving RSI and MACD indicators currently signal reasonable entry level, with anticipation of continuous improvement in both momentum and trend in near term. Should resistance level of RM0.115 be broken, it may continue to lift price higher to subsequent resistance levels of RM0.125 and RM0.135.
However, failure to hold on to support level of RM0.100 may indicate weakness in the share price and hence, a cut-loss signal.
agree with you phoonphoon, with Dato Larry Liew managing Ageson and Arbb. this 2 company will be from zero to hero! salute Dato Larry Liew with his group of hardworking people!

PUTRAJAYA: There are two new novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infections in the country, bringing the total number of cases to 14.
The 13th case is a 40-year-old Malaysian woman, while the 14th is a Chinese tourist, aged 35.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the 13th infection was the sister of the first recorded Malaysian case on Feb 4.
“She had a fever and a sore throat on Feb 1 and started coughing on Feb 4. She sought treatment at a private clinic.
“Once her brother’s case was confirmed, she was traced by officers from the Kuala Muda District Health Office in Kedah,” Dr Dzulkefly said at a press conference yesterday.
The patient, he added, was admitted to an isolation ward in Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star, and was reported to be in a stable condition.
The 14th case, meanwhile, involved a Chinese woman from Wuhan, who had arrived in Malaysia with her mother and three friends on Jan 25.
Dr Dzulkefly said the woman had visited several tourist sites in Kuala Lumpur, and sought treatment from Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) when she had a low-grade fever on Feb 1.
She tested positive for 2019-nCoV virus on Feb 5, and was now receiving treatment at an isolation ward in HKL. On the Canadian teenager who was taken to HKL yesterday on suspicion of contracting 2019-nCoV, Dr Dzulkefly said the 17-year-old had been discharged from the hospital and he tested negative for the disease.
