United Arab Emirates Claims China’s Sinopharm Vaccine Is 100% Effective At Preventing Moderate And Severe Covid-19

TOPLINE The experimental vaccine developed by China National Pharmaceutical Group, also known as Sinopharm, is 86% effective at preventing Covid-19 infection and 100% effective at preventing severe and moderate disease, health officials from the United Arab Emirates announced Wednesday, although with scarce detail provided about the trial.

The UAE health ministry cited an interim analysis of a late-stage clinical trial involving 31,000 volunteers as the source of its information, though neither they nor Sinopharm provided any data from the trial to validate the claims such as how many participants were infected or how many actually received the vaccine.

The ministry said “no serious safety concerns” were observed, though, again, no information on side effects was provided.

The ministry said the announcement is a “significant vote of confidence by the UAE’s health authorities in the safety and efficacy of this vaccine.”

The ministry added that it had officially registered the vaccine at the request of the manufacturer, which it says could eventually lead to the shot’s widespread authorization.

Hong Kong’s Ming Pao daily said in its editorial that there were grounds to believe that the UAE must have been stringent with the review and registration of the Chinese vaccine, given the country’s record of being transparent in its anti-virus policymaking and mass testing.

“The UAE also maintains sound ties with the West so sourcing vaccines from the United States or elsewhere should not be a grave challenge. If the Chinese vaccine is not safe or effective, there is no reason for the UAE to endorse Beijing’s vaccine propaganda and risk its own image and the health of its own people.

“Thus the UAE’s approval and its top leader’s injection of the SinoPharm vaccine have come as a much-needed vote of confidence that will help convince more countries. Diversified supply of vaccines, with viable alternatives from China, is key to ensuring fair and equitable access by poor countries,” said the op-ed.

SinoPharm revealed that senior officials in Egypt and Bahrain also took part in trials held there.

Technically this is starting to look interesting.
Stochastics crossing over to the upside from an oversold position. MACD also starting to close a little.

Too early to confirm upside yet but worth watching for increasing volumes/interest. It would be nice to see it break the 80 cent short term Moving Average.

I dipped my toe in the water yesterday and picked up a few at 77, although only around 30% of the amount I am planning to buy.
Missed the price move this morning but happy to see it up on yet another down day on the overall market.

Chart still in a similar place to my last post last week, with a solid break over 80 required to make it more convincing in the short term. Let's see if it can consolidate over 80 in the next few days.

I generally like HLG price calls, let's hope they are on the mark with this price target!

Currently the stock has the look of accumulation below 80. Once the sells dry up, it should move up to a higher level for further accumulation, IMO.

My chart indicators are looking ok.

Condom manufacturer Karex says 35 employees tested positive for Covid-19
(Dec 21): Karex Bhd said 35 of its employees have tested positive for Covid-19, out of 2,000 that had been screened for the virus.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the condom manufacturer said 28 cases were discovered from screening conducted at its catheter facility located in Pontian, Johor on Dec 16.
The remaining seven, it said, were isolated cases found in its two other condom factories.
Karex wishes to inform that commencing Nov 23, 2020, we have decided to voluntarily conduct Covid-19 screening for our employees, both local and foreign, across all of our facilities in Malaysia.We wish to inform that, to date, we have completed routine screening of over 2,000 of our employees and have discovered a total of 35 positive cases. We will continue to conduct screening across all of our facilities and provide updates on the matter," said the group.
Karex said the affected catheter facility is closed temporarily for disinfection and sanitisation processes and is expected to resume operations in stages beginning Dec 25.
We immediately notified the Ministry of Health (MoH) and have worked with them to identify close contacts of our affected employees as well as to ensure that our affected employees were provided proper medical care and placed in quarantine for subsequent screening.
Karex will continue to adhere to the standard operating procedures as directed by the National Security Council and the MoH in order to ensure the necessary safeguards are in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and to ensure that our employees are provided a safe and healthy working environment," it added.
Karex's share price closed 1.5 sen or 1.82% lower at 81 sen, bringing a market capitalisation of RM811.92 million. A total of 1.23 million shares changed hands.

The US has announced it will resume funding the World Health Organization (WHO), months after former President Donald Trump withdrew the country’s membership, and has also earmarked $1.9 trillion to fight Covid-19 domestically.

On his first day in office, new US President Joe Biden said he would reverse his predecessor’s decision to pull the $400 million in annual funding the US paid the WHO, as the UN health agency’s largest contributor.

“I am honored to announce that the United States will remain a member of the World Health Organization,” the president’s chief medical adviser on Covid, Anthony Fauci, told a virtual WHO panel on Thursday.

The agency’s Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said it was a “good day for WHO and a good day for global health”.

The new president earlier set a target of vaccinating 100 million people against Covid-19 in the next 100 days. The US has already posted 400,000 deaths from the virus, the worst toll in the world from the pandemic.

@cu29ok yes they have already allocated capital to venture into the glove manufacturing business, it is expected to start production around May-June 2021 (Q2) with 2 production lines, 1 each for latex and nitrile gloves
