The application is not application for registration for marketing to general public but application to import the vaccine for clinical trials only as they wish to sponsor the vaccine for clinical trial as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Read carefully.

Inix wants to sponsor the vaccine for clinical trials, hence they need to apply to NPRA for the clinical trial import license. Cannot simply import for clinical trials without prior approval from NPRA.

Ularsawa 20% of the population still not covered. Furthermore, not all vaccine will arrive at the same time, some may arrive earlier but the rest will only arrive in 3rd or 4th quarter 2021. So whichever vaccine is arrives earlier will be have the advantage. Furthermore, Sinopharm has clinical data to show that it can be used in children aged 3-17 years old whereas other vaccines do not have such clinical data and can only be used in adults. So Sinopharm can fill in the gap for vaccination of children.

WHO to consider Sinopharm, Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines next week

GENEVA (Jan 22): The World Health Organization will begin considering China's two COVID-19 vaccines for emergency approval next week, WHO Assistant Director-General Mariangela Simao said on Friday.

China is promoting two vaccines, made by Sinopharm and Sinovac, and has signed deals to export millions of doses of both of them. Simao said the WHO was also looking into providing emergency approval for AstraZeneca's vaccine from manufacturing sites in South Korea and India.

Sinopharm vaccine may be less vulnerable to Covid-19 variants, say immunologists

Inactivated shots made using a 'dead' version of the virus could give people better protection against mutated variants seen in the UK, South Africa and elsewhere

Inactivated vaccines may be more effective against fighting new mutated strains of the coronavirus, according to a top immunologist.

Such vaccines, including the UAE-approved Sinopharm, use a “dead” version of the whole virus, offering protection against multiple areas.

That means they may hold up better against variants.

Luke O’Neill, professor of biochemistry in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology at Trinity College Dublin, said because inactivated vaccines are based on the whole virus, the immune system will have “lots of weapons against lots of parts of the vaccine”.

“The whole virus vaccines are very likely to work against any variant.”
