Actively create a safe digital environment
Chong pointed out that the Ministry of Communications is actively working to create a safer digital environment, including taking an important step by amending the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
She acknowledged that while AI has the potential to drive remarkable progress, it could also be abused to violate privacy, commit fraud or spread harmful content.
“We have tabled an amendment bill to the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 in Parliament on Monday and are expected to be debated next Monday. The bill will introduce tougher penalties for offences such as child exploitation and fraud, including online scams,” he said.
Those present included Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong, Penang State Executive Councillor for Local Government and Town and Country Planning Phang Bee Luen and NationGate Holdings Berhad Managing Director Datuk Ng Yong Liang.
Huang Yongliang: Promoting local innovation
Huang Yongliang said that NationGate's cooperation projects will promote the company's entry into the field of artificial intelligence, expand its domestic and regional customer base, and strive for growth opportunities in the ASEAN and global data center markets.
Research shows that the size of data centers in Malaysia is expected to double every two years in the next five years, which requires the country to strengthen local technology applications and high-skilled labor to promote the long-term development of the data center industry.
He stressed that as a Malaysian company, NationGate not only provides AI servers and solutions, but also supports localisation goals.
“The company’s expansion into the artificial intelligence and data center industries demonstrates its commitment to advancing technology and promoting local innovation and economic growth by boosting supply chain investment and high-skilled employment.”
He pointed out that NationGate is the first manufacturer in the country to provide industry-leading servers, and hopes to leverage the spillover effect of the data center value chain to promote manufacturing and talent development, which is also one of the goals of the new industrial blueprint for 2030.
