Fitters Diversified Bhd plans to sign up at least four third-party palm oil mills over the next one to two months for the conversion into “green” palm oil mills, RHB Research said in a report on the company.
With this in mind, RHB Research has upgraded Fitters’ fair value to RM1.28. The research house garned the information on Fitters’ plan to sign up the green mills during a company visit recently.
According to the report, two of the mills are located in Peninsular Malaysia and one each in East Malaysia and Indonesia.
“Again, to recap, Fitters has no intention to own another palm oil mill.
“Its game plan is to form joint ventures (JVs) with palm oil millers to convert their existing conventional palm oil mills into ‘green’ ones to fully exploit the potential of their palm oil wastes,” analyst Joshua C.Y. Ng wrote in the report.
Ng estimates that it will cost as much as RM30 million to convert a conventional palm oil mill with a capacity of 60 tonnes per hour into a green mill.
Ng added that the investment could potentially yield RM8 million in cash return per annum before tax, translating into a payback period of only three to four years.
The potential of the “green” palm oil mill joint-venture model is tremendous with about 460, 600 and 100 palm oil mills in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand respec-tively
By converting a palm oil mill into a green mill, it will enable millers to turn wastes into a cash machine as the long fibre and pellets produced generate additional incomes, while the break-up of palm oil mill effluent when energy is extracted from it reduces the cost to treat it as a waste.
He also noted that the production of dry long fibre and biofuel pellets has started at Fitters’ palm oil mill in Kedah, with a capacity of 60 tonnes per hour of fresh fruit bunch.
“Fitters has already been selling the dry long fibre on a commercial basis while the marketing of the biofuel pellets has gone live with the delivery of samples to potential customers for further testing,” Ng wrote in the report.
He added that currently the dry long fibre and biofuel pellet lines are temporarily powered by diesel and electricity generated from the steam boiler pending the instal-lation of a biogas plant.
The construction of the biogas plant is scheduled to start in July 2011 with its completion expected by end-2011 or early 2012.–BTimes
