http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/no-choice-but-to-reclaim-land-to-fund-transport-plans-in-penang-says-guan-e This is not something new however the decision made by Penang DAP led state to consolidate and expand the transport infrastructure was one made with fact finding with no compromise and the decision was made partially because there is also no choice. 1. Penang in 2012 GDP figure shows that they are no 5 contributor GDP amongst state while under GDP per capita they are no 4. However there is very little to none budget allocation to them 2. Penang airport passenger volume hv hit 6.5Million passengers this year, a figure which was suppose to be only reach in 2020 3. Imagine if the amount of passengers hv hit its target 5 yrs earlier while the boom in industry and investment commensurate the growth compared to before 2008, can the transportation and infrastructure sustain? 4. The boom include those on mainland part of Penang. While to be sustainable, and to suppress the property pricing on Penang island, assessibility is one option and still allowing affordable housing on mainland. 5. One can only imagine if the house and property prices on the island would be if assessibility and transportation is a problem because then everyone would still want to stay on the island. Demand would be high and prices will follow suite. 6. Base on GDP per capita in Penang at no 4 but their % against Selangor GDP is much more encouraging. The facts and number don't lie and the budget contribution by fed is low to almost none, we should applaud the effort by the Penang State Govt on the 3rd links (tunnel to mainland), the lrt mooted, the cable car and the LCE bypasses through method of exchanges from reclaim land and other methods which does not have direct money exchanging hands. No 2.6b, no personal investment, and complicated exchanges
