Two of the world's major health organisations disagree on mask wearing. The World Health Organisation (WHO) currently discourages mask use:
There is currently no evidence that wearing a mask (whether medical or other types) by healthy persons in the wider community setting, including universal community masking, can prevent them from infection with respiratory viruses, including COVID-19.
WHO does recommend special masks (N95 masks or equivalent) plus other protection for health-care workers working with people who have, or are suspected to have, COVID-19.
By contrast, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States has recently recommended everyone wear a (cloth) mask. However, this is to prevent infected people passing on the infection, not to prevent the wearer getting infected.
we worship KUI LOR. KUI LOR WHO said no need mask, we follow blindly.... whatever China comment, we ostracised, dont want to follow. for e.g. RTK mass testing, our health DG said doubt of its efficacy. only lately we allow self testing kit.
Soumya: That's right. Because with a vaccine you can achieve immunity and herd immunity safely.
Through natural infection, we could also achieve it at some point, but it would be at great human cost. And so naturally, the better choice is doing it through a vaccine.
old name: ivermectin, for lembu, kuda only-so, NO for human...what if they just changed name, do some modification- then resell as premium drug by Merc, we said - wonder drug....so, we buy 10x more expensive....who knows? wakaka.....KUI LOR very tricky one
Interim clinical trial results suggest that the experimental drug for severe Covid - molnupiravir - cuts the risk of hospitalisation or death by about half.
In a news release, Merck said at the Interim Analysis, 7.3 per cent of patients who received molnupiravir were hospitalised through day 29, compared with 14.1 per cent of placebo-treated patients who were hospitalised or died.
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency or BPOM has finally granted the Emergency Use Authorization for anti-parasitic drug ivermectin as the therapeutic drug to support the Covid-19 treatment.
Besides ivermectin, the circular noted seven other therapeutic drugs for Covid-19 treatment, viz. Remdesivir, Favipiravir, Oseltamivir, Immunoglobulin, Ivermectin, Tocilizumab, Azithromycin, and Dexamethasone.
KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 7): Malaysia has struck a deal with US drug maker Merck & Co to buy 150,000 courses of its experimental antiviral pill, the Ministry of Health (MoH) said on Thursday, joining other Asian countries in a rush to secure supplies.
Malaysia also secured supplies from Pfizer earlier on, but although fully paid, supplies just trickling in as it was cornered by the western countries, mainly USA and Canada. If this oral pill works, the same will happen.

Singapore’s health ministry reported 3,703 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday, the highest since the beginning of the pandemic, while it recorded 11 new deaths from the disease.
A recent spike in infections after the relaxation of some restrictions has prompted Singapore to pause further reopening. It also tightened curbs from last week that limited social gatherings to two people and made work from home a default.
More than 80% of Singapore’s population has been vaccinated against the virus.
Singapore got remarkable success from their mass vaccination ???
PETALING JAYA: Khairy Jamaluddin owes Malaysians a full and frank ministerial statement on Covid-19 before the Dewan Rakyat adjourns this week, says DAP strongman Lim Kit Siang.
He said the health minister should not miss the opportunity to do this, especially on the high number of Covid-19 deaths, before the Dewan Rakyat adjourns until the 2022 budget meeting at the end of the month.
“Although the daily reported death numbers have come down to a quarter from 295 on Aug 30 when he took office to 74 yesterday, the bought-in-dead cases are still unacceptably high.
“The health minister still owes Malaysians a full and frank statement on the high Covid-19 death numbers, including the clearing of the backlog,” he said in a statement today.
Lim said the people want to know what the health ministry is doing to drastically reduce the fatality rate in keeping with an “all-of-nation” policy and strategy to fight Covid-19.
He said as it had been over a month since Khairy became minister, he should also explain in Parliament the expected trajectory of the Covid-19 pandemic till the end of the year.
“Although Malaysia has come down from the daily peak of 24,599 new cases on Aug 26, we are encountering difficulties in flattening the Covid-19 curve to bring the daily numbers to triple-digit numbers before lowering it to double digits.
“After one-and-a-half months, Khairy is still struggling with the daily new Covid-19 cases and unable to bring it down to below 8,000,” he said.
Comparing this with Indonesia, Lim said the country, which reached a daily peak of 56,757 new cases on July 15, managed to bring it down to four-figure numbers after 39 days on Aug 23 when it reported 9,604 cases.
“And it has even fallen to three-digit numbers with 922 new cases on Oct 4.”
The Iskandar Puteri MP said at the present rate of infection, Malaysia was likely to pass the 2.5 million mark for cumulative total cases by the end of this month and exceed three million by Khairy’s first 100 days in office.
Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today said the republic must press on with its strategy of “Living with COVID-19”.
“We should respect COVID-19, but we must not be paralysed by fear. Let us go about our daily activities as normally as possible, taking necessary precautions and complying with SMMs (Safe Management Measures),” he said while addressing the nation on the current COVID-19 situation.

Answer : Senior Lim has misled local chinese for half a century now! And for the last 10 years, local chinese have been missing in national building, instead harped on chinese past glory! Just look around! So many things are been built without local chinese presence! If local chinese missout for another 10 years, you think malays will still rely on local chinese! That's why i said, Senior Lim is trash! Dap should move on without the Lims! We need a true competent leaders in Dap that can work in multiracial settings! As for Khairy, he has done his job well! How come Senior Lim say nothing about those 70 useless ministers! How come Senior Lim so quiet when Mahathir made a mockery out of 22 months of Harapan administration!
Khairy said this did not mean he was taking the matter of new infections lightly, only that the daily cases should be seen in the context of other indicators to provide a more accurate picture of the Covid situation.
He also said there has been a 25% drop in new cases over the past two weeks with 98% of new infections comprising Category 1 and 2 cases.
Even in the case of deaths, Khairy said 2,344 fatalities were recorded in the first week of August while this week there were 360 deaths, an 85% drop in the death rate.
“Brought in dead (BID) cases have also dropped by 89%. ICU bed utilisation has dropped to 60%. If you look at these indicators, even though we haven’t won (the war against Covid) and are still a long way from the endemic phase, we (can see) that we are transitioning to the endemic phase,” he said.
