Wealthy families have been enrolling their children in MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM). There is real concerns about equity and fairness in Malaysia's education system. Children from affluent families—particularly those of senior public servants, political leaders, and successful businessmen—should not benefit from the heavily subsidized education provided by MRSM. This practice is unfair to lower-income families, who may rely on such opportunities to access quality education. MRSM schools, which were initially established to uplift underprivileged, rural, and Malay communities through science and technology education, should primarily serve those in need. Allowing children from wealthier families to enroll in MRSM schools undermines the intent of these institutions by diverting resources meant for less advantaged students. This has been contributing to perpetual inequality in education access and challenges in poverty eradication.
