KUALA LUMPUR: The announcement and review of Tabung Haji (TH) dividends for the financial year 2023 are expected to be done in April after a full audit is conducted, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.

He said this followed warnings received from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) previously to conduct a comprehensive audit before any dividend distribution is done.

"Now is the time for the audit to be carried out, so God willing by April we will announce the dividend," he said when met by reporters after visiting Asnaf (zakat recipients) here tonight.

Asked if there would be good news for depositors in terms of dividends this year, Na'im expressed the hope that the TH top management could find the best way to balance reasonable dividend payments without compromising financial assistance to Hajj pilgrims in the B40 and M40 groups.

"Now, the issue with TH is how to balance it out, because it's the same fund; if we give high dividends, it will reduce financial aid to B40 and M40 Hajj pilgrims.

"So the top management of TH, I hope to be able to think and find the best way to ensure that a reasonable dividend is given to depositors, and at the same time without affecting the Hajj assistance to depositors who sit under the B40 and M40 categories," he said.

Previously, TH announced a profit distribution for the financial year 2022 at a rate of 3.10 per cent after considering zakat at 2.57 per cent, involving a total distribution of RM2.65 billion to over 8.7 million depositors. - Bernama
