SCIB Completes Hand Over of Two Daif Schools Following Redevelopment

Group was awarded the RM13.28 million project in October 2021 as part of RM1 billion allocation for rural schools

KUCHING (7 SEPTEMBER 2023)   – Civil engineering specialist Sarawak Consolidated Industries Berhad ("SCIB" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that the Group’s wholly-owned subsidiary, SCIB Industrialised Building System Sdn. Bhd. (“SCIBIBS”), has recently handed over two schools located in Kanowit near Sibu following their redevelopment under Package 13 of the RM1 billion Daif School Redevelopment Project’s second phase.

SCIBIBS was awarded the engineering, procurement, construction, and commission (“EPCC”) project valued at RM13.28 million by the Sarawak Public Works Department in October 2021.

Managing Director of SCIB, Ku Chong Hong

Managing Director of SCIB, Mr. Ku Chong Hong (“Mr. Ku”) said, “Students will now have a safer and more conducive environment to study following the redevelopment of the two schools. We also hope that the students will have more comfortable surroundings in which to pursue their academic and co-curricular activities. We certainly hope that the redevelopment of the two schools will help ease the challenges of these children in obtaining a decent education.”

“The Company will continue to seek small-to-mid-sized projects where we can leverage our construction arm’s EPCC expertise backed by our presence as East Malaysia’s leading precast concrete and IBS manufacturer. Our track record in rural infrastructure spans roads, schools, and clinics, and we are actively pursuing projects in East Malaysia where RM920 million have been set aside for dilapidated schools in both Sarawak and Sabah, which has been allocated RM5.6 billion and RM6.5 billion, respectively under the re-tabled Budget 2023.”

“As part of our corporate social responsibility, we have contributed SK Nanga Pedai and SK Nanga Jagoi with cash donations, demonstrating our commitment to supporting education in the community. Additionally, we have donated a number of computers and printers to the schools, aiming to bolster their educational programs and provide an enriched learning experience for the students.”

SCIBIBS was also recently awarded two school projects, an EPCC subcontract for the construction of Sekolah Kebangsaan Tambay in Kota Samarahan and the rebuilding of a Daif school in SK Kujang Mawang, Tebedu, Serian.

As at the end of 4QFY2023, SCIB’s order book stood at a cumulative contract value of RM275 million.
