The share market and me -
For the past 5-6 years, I do not remember a day that I had not tuned into i3investor for latest news & gossips on the counters I follow, read blogs and analyst reports and post comments and also update the transaction on my portfolio.
For as long as I can remember, I have always been passionate about the stock market. It is in my DNA.
I think i was only 10 when my dad first told me about the share market. Those days, the mining and plantation companies were the favourites (Berjuntai, MMC,Tronoh, Guthrie, Sime, Selangor Coconut etc.)
I come from a family where many elders were into the market. As kids we use to see and adults get excited during the 1993 superbull, and then get burnt in the 1998 asian crisis and then the 2000 tech bubble.
I started buying (and selling) shares since 2002 (by then i was working as a junior engineer in Penang). My maternal uncle introduced his broker to me and i signed up with him. I remember the first time i traded (back then you need to write a cheque) and pass it to the broker.
I felt accepted by the elders in the family (esp my maternal uncle & grandfather) - they said "Boy, you are now you are a stock marketeer". It was a good feeling.
My journey as a "stock marketeer" was very typical of most retail investors/speculators. My first 2-3 trades I made a quick buck here and there. It felt great. The stock market to me felt like a slot machine to make money.
Enjoying the begginer luck i felt that I "know how to read the market" and traded more.
Of course you can guess then what happened, before I knew it I got stuck. Did not know how to cut loss and burnt my fingers.
This is my first blog and I aspire to write about my lessons and experience over the years as an amatuer in the market to a Consistent Divvy-Focus LT Investor - based on my investing style and risk appetite and overall view of the market, esp the Bursa Malaysia.
In the past 1 year or so, I have been planning to start wrting and blogging about Investing, Value Investing and Personal Finance..
This seems to be the best time for me to "get started" as we begin the New Year tomorrow ..year of the Dog
I appreciate all your time and support to read and comment. Constructive comments/feddback and questions are most welcome. Blogging here is my own small way of "giving back" by sharing my knowledge and also learning from all of you.
Also take this opportunity to wish all of you all the Prosperityh and Good Health this Lunar New Year!!
Cheers & God Bless.....................AK
