Dear all,

Just posted below write-up in Tun Mahathir’s blog

Dear Tun Dr Mahathir,

Please allow me to repost a comment by Sharudin Jamal

http://chedet.cc/?p=2905#comment-143086

[Chedet is a hardy Old Coot. However he is a man with a big heart. Otherwise he cannot have so many children and adopted a couple on the side.

He likes people who are smart AND hardworking. The irony is he spent much of his energy trying to change the Malays. He tried the instant noodle approach and *no[t] he is seeing the colossal effect. Malays are lazy. I can say this because I am part Malay. So what I’m saying is I am part guilty of that too. Compares to the Chinese, the Malays are mares next to the thoroughbreds

*By now you realize that any misspelling is a cipher by external party.

Being lazy is fine, but they are a bunch of opportunists. The Malays LOOOVE easy money; MLM, get rich quick schemes, passive investments, taking bribes, Mr 10% and what have you.

Chedet on the other had closed one eye on all these because he wanted to see quick result. To him it is OK to have a few who are rich (with whatever means) because the wealth will trickle down to the masses eventually. Unfortunately these greedy Malays hogs the wealth to themselves. It only trickle within their circles; family, kin and cronies. Even scholarships and loans are for the taking of the greedy Malay elitists.

So in a way it is Chedet who created the monsters that we have now. During his 22 years reign, the Malays were pampered by handouts and subsidies. Those in the ruling normally have one hand on the policies and another hand on the projects. If you watch Malay drama, it is always about a rich Datuk or his kin involving in multi-million mega project.

Poor Chedet. He is good at giving the fish but not at showing how to fish.

What I like to see is Chedet acting as the pacesetter for a Malaysian Malaysia. I like the concept of Bangsa Malaysia as in Malay Malaysian, Chinese Malaysian and Indian Malaysian. I however don’t want to see the Malays favored over the other races. It should be egalitarian in nature because we are in a racial cauldron of multiple ethnicity. Our children are now hybrids.]

To Chedet blog readers my opinions what had gone wrong with Malaysians:
By championing

-backdoor government, democracy and people mandate were murdered, unbridled ‘cash is king’ and ‘abuse of power’ are inevitable;

- backdoor policy, meritocracy and prosperity were killed, while white collar crooks and high-level traitors were created;

- backdoor institutions, quality education and universal moral values became a fantasy, sinful corruption and cultural erosion became unstoppable;

-race and religion supremacy, justice and universal human rights were trampled, while bigotry, intolerant, extremism and injustice are the order of the day;

-greed and power, fairness and rule of law were destroyed, while insatiable lust and sexual desire rule the day.

I myself do not wish Tun Mahathir to come back as our 9th PM, if possible Tun should be appointed as Minister Mentor and  head the Education Reform as Tun still has the unfulfilled promises made to Tun’s alma mater Sultan Abdul Hamid College’s (SAHC)

https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/2018/12/21/for-education-overhaul-pm-moots-cutting-back-on-religion-studies/1705356

[To address the problem of schools being overly-focused on religion, Dr Mahathir said the timetable and curriculum in schools would be changed.

“Because of that, we are going to change the timetable and curriculum in the schools, we will still study religion, but not all periods in one day, maybe one or two periods in a week,” he said.

“But we need to master all the other subjects, because if we want to progress, Malaysians must be well-educated, not only in reciting Quran, but also in other languages. If we don’t, we are going to be very backward,” he said.

“So the school curriculum will be changed and modified, so that now we will have national schools that will teach everybody all the important subjects that will be useful for them when they mature and become independent individuals,” he said.

Dr Mahathir said Malaysia is currently going through a difficult phase and needs development, adding that the country needs well-educated people and those who are able to interact with others and speak up for the nation.

“We have to work very hard in order to catch up with other people.

“And although we have to say our prayers, but we also need to spend a good time on mastering all the other subjects that are taught in the school,” he said.

In his speech, Dr Mahathir also said that Malaysians were formerly known to have good command of the English language.

Dr Mahathir encouraged Malaysians to master English which he described as a “universal language” and crucial for acquiring new knowledge to help the country progress, saying that learning the language would not diminish their Malay or Malaysian identity.

The Kedah-born Dr Mahathir was speaking at the dinner organised by the Sultan Abdul Hamid Old Collegians Association (Sahoca) KL, of which he is also lifetime president.

This year also marks the 110th anniversary of the SAHC, where his father Mohamad Iskandar was its first principal when the school was then known as the Government English School.]

Thank you

Yours truly,

SS LEE

PS: Leaders come and go; it is the system that will determine what kind of leaders we will get in future. We each get what we deserve and I desire for institutional reform to secure our future. My previous comments on Malaysia Education:

How things could have gone so wrong with the mindset of these hal baked leaders, pseudointellectual phD holders and kampung folks?

Yes......answer is still education (because we have been overspending on this for nothing concrete)

Identifying barriers to proper education of children for nation-building:

1. What is poisoning the young minds to discriminate ignobly; and become bigotry and bully?

2. What is stopping them from understanding and embracing pluralism; and widening their horizon of world view?

https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2019/08/05/face-the-truth-we-are-not-out-of-the-woods-warns-daim

I have mentioned in previous speeches that in the case of the Malays, many seem to see ghosts around every corner. It seems that these ghosts are getting more numerous and more easily visible with each passing generation. Surely, we have to look at how our children are being educated – formally, religiously and morally – as an indication of where our community is heading.

We must empower them with the ability to think critically, logically, wisely and to make their own informed decisions, no matter the situation. We must raise a new generation of leaders and great thinkers, not of sheep and cowards.

Positive moral values must be inculcated amongst our youth, and emphasised in the Malaysian workforce. We must take pride in our work and in ourselves. It is not too late for those of us who are adults to start living with integrity.

Do we gain anything by teaching the young that they have the right of entitlement over all others simply because of their race? Is it right to be instilling in students the thinking that all other religions are inferior to yours?

Is it moral to drill into students that other students are not entitled to certain privileges simply because they are not of a certain race, even if they are economically disadvantaged?

We have been robbing the poor to further uplift those that don’t deserve the support, and this widening of the education and income gap must come to an end. The fear-mongering is only to encourage and continue this abuse. Its time to stop the “them versus us” rhetoric.

We have to admit that trying to keep the Malays in their own cocoons will only ensure that they will be the ones left far behind. While the other races are competing with each other and with the rest of the world, the Malays are faced with political rhetoric that insists that they remain spoon-fed and pampered. This will only soften the Malays and in an increasingly globalised economic

Let us not be under any illusions. We are still far from being out of the woods. We are far from being ready for the changes happening around us. We are far from being a united people. We are far from being able to compete at the global level. We are far from being able to embrace differences and changes. And underpinning all of this unpreparedness is education.

If we do not first get education right, all these other challenges will suddenly become insurmountable. To borrow a quote from Alvin Toffler: “The illiterate of the 21st Century are not those who cannot read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.”

I would like to add to this by saying, “not only those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn, but also those who refuse to learn.”

Underlying all these, there must be unity, and a sense of urgency.

Government agencies getting efficient unlike the last two years (that's the most important). (It seems like DAP coalition unable to mobilise government servants. )

ya.....so fake......should just teach the basics

Most people assume “belief” refers to religion. But it is so much more. Belief is the ability to combine histories and experiences with imagination, to think beyond the here and now. It enables humans to see, feel, and know an idea that is not immediately present to the senses, then wholly invest in making that idea one’s reality.

We must believe in ideas and abilities in order to invent iPhones, construct rockets, and make movies. We must believe in the value of goods, currencies, and knowledge to build economies. We must believe in collective ideals, constitutions, and institutions to form nations. We must believe in love (something no one can clearly see, define, or understand) to engage in relationships.

Anyone knew how much under declared tax money (timber and natural resources) “Government Money” ends up with greedy tycoons and corrupted “White Hair” Taib and dirty politicians.

Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas, Petronas:
“It’s so difficult to do an honest day’s job. You spend a lot of time away from your true function (of running Petronas).”

“It’s not just people outside [who are making things difficult but] also people in the government — the bureaucrats. Bureaucratic interference makes things difficult."

“I’m a Malay too, I’m proud to be one … you think I don’t want to help my own people? Of course I want to help them, but in the proper way -- not through handouts and spoon-feeding."

“Everybody can see that we at Petronas are under immense pressure … We take pride in telling the whole world, telling the whole of Malaysia, that we are a Fortune 500 company, but do we behave like one?”

“This is what the fighting is all about, trying to give ourselves some independence, so that at the end of the day, we are measured in terms of our performance, delivery and results, and not having anyone intervening and telling us what we have to do and that we have to give handouts to all.”

“The government wants us to be like an international oil company, comparable with the Shells and ExxonMobils of the world, so we try to be one. But Shell and ExxonMobil are not harassed by their governments.”

“In the Petroleum Development Act, it is very clear — oil and gas belong to all Malaysians. It doesn’t say oil and gas belong to the bumiputeras, it doesn’t say that … it says all Malaysians, so they can be in the government, they can be in the opposition, they can be wherever … and we are the custodians.”

“It is amanah … diamanahkan … the word amanahkan is very strong — as a Muslim, it would be a huge sin if I abused ‘amanah’.

Back to Basics: Education for Nation-Building

The good news is all children have a head start as they were born with an innocent indifference to what sets people apart. Although they are aware of ways we differ, but they aren’t born identifying people with a particular race, gender, or ethnicity, They don’t naturally discriminate.

Then beg the question : When, where and how do they learn to be bigotry?

Education and upbringing are the answer. Formal education for those ages 6 to 8 must address this malignant issue. An educator par excellence knows that little children are very attuned to what’s fair and not fair. And intuitively owning a strong basis against injustice.

So, what could have gone so wrong? What has been instilled into their minds in real/family/school life?

A country leader par excellence knows that every parents must learn to keep the conversation at the right level — of reassurance, honesty, and detail with their young ones about the malignancy of bigotry.

If he were to reform education and mentor the ministers, does he have these qualities?
