What Malaysian Soonicorns Want From Budget 2024

12-Oct-23 12:00

Dr Sivapalan Vivekarajah, Senior Partner & Co-Founder, ScaleUp Malaysia Accelerator

The Budget 2024 will be tabled tomorrow at the parliament and it will be the second budget from the unity government and today we will be exploring what the government can do to further support and stimulate Malaysia's startup ecosystem.

Among other things, the last budget saw allocations for Khazanah Nasional and EPF to invest in innovative and high-growth local start-up companies with an investment value of RM1.5 billion as well as up to RM2 billion in financing from Bank Negara Malaysia to support green tech start-ups and help SMEs implement low-carbon practices.

That was a good start, but what else does the startup ecosystem need in order to truly thrive? Dr. Sivapalan Vivekarajah, Senior Partner & Co-Founder at ScaleUp Malaysia Accelerator, has some thoughts on this, so we've invited him back to the studio to share them with us.
