KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 21): G Capital Bhd has appointed former chief of defence forces General Tan Sri Affendi Buang as its executive chairman effective immediately.

In a statement on Tuesday, the renewable energy (RE) solution provider said the appointment of Affendi, 61, is part of the group’s ongoing commitment to pioneering sustainable energy advancements.

Affendi has served in the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) for over four decades; he was the country’s 18th Chief of Air Force and 21st Chief of Defence Force.

G Capital executive director Datuk Yap Yee Ping said that the appointment of Affendi to the board will be an invaluable addition to strengthening its team.

“Tan Sri Affendi is armed with strong leadership and accountability in his distinguished military disciplines… that will spur G Capital’s growth positioning in the RE battlefield,” he added.

In addition to his extensive military experience, Affendi also holds a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies from Deakin University.

Meanwhile, Affendi expressed his excitement to take the role as executive chairman at the G Capital.

“My distinguished military career has provided me with an arsenal of skills and experiences that will prove invaluable in leading G Capital to new heights of success in the dynamic and competitive renewable energy sector,” he said.

At 2.54pm on Tuesday, shares of G Capital were half a sen or 1.28% lower at 38.5 sen, valuing the group at RM125.21 million. The counter has fallen 18% so far this year.
