KUALA LUMPUR (May 23): A former political secretary to ex-home minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has claimed trial to two counts of receiving RM350,000 bribe from a company to obtain a tender in supplying infrastructure, communications systems and software to the police.

Sayed Amir Muzzakkir Al Sayed Mohammad, 42, of Rawang, is charged with receiving RM100,000 and RM250,000 cash respectively from Nexusgroup Group Sdn Bhd managing director Wan Azhar Mohamed Yusof, for the company to obtain the tender to maintain and supply infrastructure, server, software and radio systems for the police.

Sayed Amir is alleged to have received the cash at Solaris Dutamas here on Dec 4, 2020 and Dec 16, 2020.

He is charged under Section 16(a) (A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, which is punishable under Section 24 of the same Act. If convicted, he stands to face up to 20 years' jail and a fine of up to five times the amount of bribe received.

Sayed Amir was represented by counsel Md Yunos Sharif on Thursday, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Zander Lim Wai Keong appeared for the prosecution.

It is understood that Sayed Amir will face another charge in the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Friday.

Sessions Court Judge Azura Alwi set bail at RM60,000, with one surety, and fixed July 7 for case management.
