SHAH ALAM (July 22): Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor sent a second letter of representation to drop two sedition charges against him over his remarks on the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar and the establishment of the federal government respectively.

The Jeneri assemblyman's trial was set to begin on Monday before High Court judge Datuk Aslam Zainuddin. On the onset of the trial, however, his lawyer Awang Armadajaya Awang Mahmud informed the court that the defence submitted another letter to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) last week.

Awang informed the court that as the AGC needs time to consider the latest letter of representation, he asked for the trial to be postponed for two months.

Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Masri Mohd Daud confirmed receiving the letter of representation, and had no objection to the postponement.

The trial dates set for July and August have now been vacated, and the court has set Sept 27 for case management.

A previous letter of representation to drop the two charges against him was dismissed.

Sanusi was charged in July last year, where he pleaded not guilty.

He was alleged to have uttered seditious words regarding the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar and the establishment of the federal government, at a political talk at Simpang 4, Taman Selayang Mutiara-Kampung Bendahara, Gombak near here, at 11pm on July 11 last year.

The two charges are framed under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act 1948, and punishable under Section 4(1) of the same law, which provides a maximum fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both, upon conviction.
