Imagine that there's an app with which you can simply scan a complicated maths problem with your smartphone camera and it spits out the solution for you. Well, it's call Photomath, and it exists.

The app, which is free for Android and iOS, is not only useful for parents who want to check their kids' homework; it can also help students learn or prepare for exams. That's because Photomath not only shows the correct result, but also the detailed solution.

Photomath uses the smartphone's camera to capture the maths problem and can read handwritten problems just as well as printed ones.

It can also work offline, so you don't need an Internet connection to solve a knotty equation. Whether simple arithmetic, fractional calculation, algebra, trigonometry, analysis or statistics, Photomath is at home in practically all areas of mathematics.

On top of that, it comes with a well-equipped scientific calculator.
