According to research by IDC, PC shipments in Europe, the Middle East and Asia are forecast to total 96.4 million in 2021, equating to spectacular growth of 16% compared to 2020. PC shipments are expected to drop over the following years, except for ultraslim and convertible notebooks.

Demand for PCs is expected to be strong all year long, notably due to the ongoing pandemic and the need for high-performance or updated home hardware. IDC forecasts growth of almost 40% for the first quarter alone.

In Europe, the commercial PC market (notebooks and desktops) is expected to see growth of 25% in Q1, then continue to grow double digits until the third quarter of the year, buoyed by ongoing education tenders, plus strong demand in the government segment and private sector for home-working staff.

Growth should be even more spectacular in the consumer market, reaching an exceptional 60% in the first quarter.

Sales are eventually expected to drop back to more regular levels, although shipments of ultraslim and convertible notebooks are predicted to continue growing until 2025.
