Flipkart has shared top smartphone trends to watch out for in 2021. According to the trend report, things like 5G-ready phones will become common this year. The report also predicts the arrival of unique form factors such as flexible OLED displays and rollable phones.

“Flipkart, India's homegrown e-commerce marketplace, has been at the forefront of this digital transformation in the country. By leveraging a deep consumer understanding, it has been able to facilitate the availability of the latest, technologically advanced products which consistently address a wide array of consumer requirements,” the e-commerce company said in the trends report.

According to the report, 5G will help drive new use cases for smartphones. Users can expect brands to launch 5G-enabled smartphones with lower price tags. It will also help accelerate the adoption of 5G in the country.

Cameras have always been one of the factors for making a buying decision. This year, customers can expect larger camera sensors with as high as 108-megapixel resolution to become more commonplaces. The report also pointed out the first commercial phone with the under-display selfie camera. According to the report, technology will continue to get refined over the year. It says customers can expect more phones this year with better camera quality and larger camera sensors.

The Flipkart trends report also stresses the evolution of the performance of the phone. It notes the arrival of 5nm processors. It predicts mobile chips will offer better AI features integration, helping improve camera performance through computational photography. Apart from mobile chips, customers can expect bigger and better batteries on the 2021 phones. According to the report, 6000mAh batteries will get democratised in the year. High-powered chargers with more than 100W power could also be on the horizon. The adaptive refresh rate is also going to be one of the additions to the 2021 phones.

“The traditional smartphone design is also seeing drastic changes after staying fairly consistent over the last few years. While foldable phones have been introduced with varying features, flexible OLED screens now allow for rollable screen phones. These however are likely to remain in the enthusiast and early adopter realms in 2021,” the report added.
