BERLIN: After a month of beta testing, Sony has released the latest PlayStation 5 software for all gamers, and support for popular gaming chat service Discord and a new graphics format are among the highlights.

The PS5 firmware 7.00 brings integrated voice chat on Discord, which has become the standard for many online gamers. Once you've updated, you can add your account in the system menu under "Users/Accounts".

While the update brings makes Discord chat easier for online gaming, some gamers have complained that, unlike on the Xbox, calls can't be joined directly from the PlayStation, and that a long-winded process of transferring the call from another device is still needed.

Integration is also limited to voice chat, and Discord text messages and streams have yet to arrive on the PlayStation.

Another new feature arriving in the update is the support for variable refresh rates (VRR) at 1440p resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels), often referred to as WQHD. Until now, VRR was only available at Full HD and 4K resolutions.

In a more practical improvement, the software that runs the DualSense wireless controller should now also be able to be updated wirelessly.

If this does not work right away after the update, Sony advises updating the controller again via USB cable. After that, at the latest, the wireless controller updates should work.
