BERLIN: Apple has made it a little easier for anyone who has repaired an iPhone themselves to get the phone running again - provided they’ve used genuine Apple parts.

After a self service repair, iPhone owners can now start a software tool called System Configuration that will check the new parts and set up everything automatically.

Previously, this required a call to Apple during which support staff would remotely perform the configuration. But earlier in 2023, Apple launched a new tool that can be called up by putting the iPhone into diagnostic mode and following the instructions on the screen.

However, Apple is not abolishing telephone support. It will continue to be available for questions and assistance regarding the self-service repair program.

Apple is also expanding the programme. From now on, models in the iPhone 14 series can also be repaired by their owners as can MacBooks, including the 13-inch Air and Pro models with M2 processors.

Samsung also recently launched its own self-repair program. Genuine Samsung spare parts are available for the Galaxy smartphones S20, S21, and S22 as well as for the Galaxy laptops Book Pro and Book Pro 360 (15-inch models).
