Scoot over AirAsia, there's a new low-cost airline in town.

Introducing the best budget airline in the Asia Pacific region: Scoot.

The eight-year-old low-cost carrier dethrone the Malaysian-based reigning champion at the annual TTG Travel Awards on September 27.

AirAsia had won seven times out of eight between 2011 to 2018, The Straits Times reports.

If you're a Malaysian and love your airlines, you might be seething. In fact you should because Singapore Airlines, the parent company to Scoot, was awarded the best full-service carrier.

The airlines were awarded based on votes by travel industry players and TTG readers.

We're pretty sure the good folks at Scoot are jubilant. I mean, they should be because they had experienced major flight disruptions which began in November 2018 and continued until February 2019.

Those were technical issues which affected thousands of travelers. Scoot chief Lee Lik Hsin had to apologize for the unforeseen circumstances.

Now, the focus has been on enhancing customers' experience. Specifically when it comes to traveling.

Several changes have been made, among which include removing payment processing fees for passengers booking tickets online and migrating from Changi Airport Terminal 2 to Terminal 1. The airline is also gearing up to launch flights to nine destinations.

"The Scoot team is grateful and heartened to receive this award and we will remain focused on exceeding our customers' expectations every day even as we expand globally," Lee said.
