THE HAGUE, July 29 -- Dutch electronics giant Philips on Monday reported in its second quarter results a 9 percent increase in orders compared to the same period last year.

In a press release, Philips CEO Roy Jakobs expressed optimism about the company's performance. "I am encouraged by our return to order intake growth this quarter, primarily driven by North America."

The Dutch technology company also saw a surge in net income, which rose to 452 million euros (488 million U.S. dollars) in the second quarter, up from 74 million euros in the same quarter last year.

Sales amounted to 4.5 billion euros, marking a 2 percent growth.

Philips reiterated its confidence in achieving its 2025 plan, despite acknowledging existing uncertainties.

For the full year 2024, the company maintains its expectation of 3 to 5 percent comparable sales growth, it said.

"However, this outlook does not consider potential impacts from the ongoing Philips Respironics-related legal proceedings, including the investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice," it said. (1 euro = 1.08 U.S. dollar)
