BEIRUT: The pro-Iranian Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah said early on Sunday (Aug 4) that it launched dozens of Katyusha rockets on the area of Beit Hillel in northern Israel for the first time.

The group said in a statement that "in response to the Israeli enemy's attacks on the steadfast southern villages and safe houses, especially the attacks that targeted the villages of Kafr Kila and Deir Saryan and the injury of civilians, Hezbollah hit Beit Hillel for the first time with dozens of Katyusha rockets."

According to Israeli media, many of the rockets were intercepted by the country's Iron Dome anti-missile shield system.

Lebanese security sources in south Lebanon said around 50 rockets were fired into northern Israel from Lebanon.

The situation on the Israel-Lebanon has recently worsened significantly.

After the targeted killings of Hezbollah military commander Fouad Shukur and Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh earlier this week, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has vowed revenge.

Since the outbreak of the Gaza war, there has been daily shelling between Hezbollah and the Israeli military, leading to fatalities on both sides.
