Deputy minister: Don’t waste time quarrelling over skin colour

CYBERJAYA, Aug 20 — People should not waste time bickering over their skin colour and other matters which cannot be changed but should direct their resources towards deepening their knowledge and promoting racial unity, said Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Hannah Yeoh.

She said it is important for the people to cast aside their fear and suspicion of each other for the country to remain strong.

“As long as we do not mix with and respect others, we will not be able to compete with other countries and will waste time quarrelling over skin colour and other matters which cannot be changed,” she said when opening a community education carnival involving parents and the community here today.

Yeoh said schools are a good venue for inculcating the spirit of unity and therefore teachers should encourage students to mix with each other through activities in and outside the classroom.

“Teachers should inspire unity and interaction beyond the boundaries we ourselves have built. Every generation has its own fears and we should motivate the coming generation to interact to instil unity,” she said.

In conjunction with the National Day celebration on August 31, Yeoh hoped that the people would not take for granted the spirit of unity prevailing in the country.

“We must protect this spirit of unity not only for our generation but also for our children’s.

“We can see that in other countries where there is no unity, troubles will break out and children will also become victims when there is no peace,” she added. — Bernama

so Hannah is saying minorities should just accept face down that they are discriminated? so it is ok for rich bumi to buy bungalow get 7% discount, but poor chinese/indian no discount when buy low cost flat?

that's why i say DAP has lost it's moral compass!

if she said that good laa at least she know dap is promoting backdoor racism before...now repenting laa...bear in mind racism is 1 thing priveledges is 1 rhing. eg europeand and americafor white althought red indian befor...India for Indian Republic of China For Chinese priveledges so and so forth...when we understand all this everything will be settle...

for housing can discuss eg. very rich bumi 0-3%, rich 4%, poor 7% later. just dont crossing the border. understand and comparing other countries deeply about the meaning of priviledes...to differentiate it it with racism..just understand it using our heart and sould deeply.hopefully we live in peaceful...

Minister Hannah Yeoh, is showing us a path for all Msians to move beyond all our current state of lose-lose to a win-win for all, which is to focus on the positive agenda such as promoting goodwill n racial unity, as Msians.

There is no end to grouses, as u yourself shd know, u have been saying all the negative things in I3, before GE14 n looks like you will continue to blah,blah,blah until the lights off for you.

But, your approach does not bring anything useful for us Msians, to move forward.
We will be stuck in the lose-lose mode until Kingdom come.
Pls change your negativity n focus on positive solutions , this is what Msians want n need, for a better tmrw for everyone.

You wrong, the minority not only no discount but have to bear the cost of discounts given to the majority. We pay higher to cover the cost not the developers.
