PETALING JAYA: With a number of Covid-19 cases concentrated at wet markets, the Health Ministry is waiting for a report from the Veterinary Services Department on whether the virus is found to be present in the livestock.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic), however, said that food is safe to consume as long as it is cooked.

“There are many who are worried about this issue, but as of now, there have been no infections caused by food.

“If we look at a chicken factory, for instance, we are waiting for a report from the department on whether the virus is present in the livestock.

“But what we do know from our own actions, is that when we cook the food, the virus will die – if the virus is present in the food at all.

“At this point, we do not know whether the virus is present in the food in the first place. We are waiting for the study from the Veterinary Services Department on that,” he said at his daily briefing at Putrajaya on Monday (May 11).
