PUTRAJAYA: The youth-centric multiracial political party to be formed by Muar member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is a movement for all Malaysians.

The former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth chief said this in response to a statement by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that the proposed youth-centric political party by the former will not do well in garnering support during the election.

"Thank you Tun (Dr Mahathir). We accept your criticism with an open heart.

"This is a party led by youths for all Malaysians.

"Majority among the leadership will consist of technocrats, professionals, entrepreneurs, modern farmers, civil society leaders and others.

"We may be young but we love Malaysia," Syed Saddiq said in a social media posting on his Twitter account.

Earlier at a press conference here today, the former prime minister said he did not know why Syed Saddiq wanted to form a new political party.

"I do not think it (the new party by Syed Saddiq) will be successful.

"Although the youth represent a very big portion among the electorate, it is not enough for the party to win (the election).

"In any (parliamentary and state) constituencies, there are old and the young among the electorate," said the Langkawi member of Parliament, who is also the founder of Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang).

Dr Mahathir however maintained that Pejuang was willing to cooperate with Syed Saddiq and his new party.

" We have good relations with him. We have no problems (working together) if the objective is all about fighting corruption," he said.
