PUTRAJAYA: Umno and Barisan Nasional can only return to their “glory days” if members unite and close ranks, says Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

“While differences in opinions are natural, they should not be to the detriment of the party, ” he said.

“It is all right to have different views.

“Openness has always been a practice in this party. However, such openness means nothing if it damages the party.

“Freedom of speech should not mean that we are free to say anything to the detriment of the party.

“Make sure that all actions taken are for the benefit of Umno and Barisan, ” said Shamsul, who is also Barisan’s communications director, in a Facebook post.

The Energy and Natural Resources Minister said Umno members need to place their personal interests aside and focus on the party.

“I believe all leaders, members and supporters of Umno and Barisan want the party to return to its glory days.

“I am confident this can happen, but there are conditions. All leaders, including myself, as well as party members, must close ranks, unite and focus on strengthening the party.

“Put this as a priority. Focus on defending and safeguarding the interests of the rakyat.

“We must bring the party closer to the people so they will be with us, ” he said.
