KUALA LUMPUR: A spate of high-profile resignations and appointments at government-linked investment companies this week have sparked a euphoria over more major shake-ups at GLICs and government-linked companies (GLCs) soon.

Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) chairman Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz is the latest to step down.

PNB, in a statement today, said Zeti, Bank Negara Malaysia's first female governor, would be stepping down this week as her three-year term comes to an end on April 30.

The country's largest fund manager said Zeti had officially written to the Prime Minister who is also chairman of PNB's parent Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputra to express her intention not to renew her contract (see accompanying story).

This came two days after the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) announced the departure of its chief executive officer Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin, who has been at the helm for a meagre four months.

Amrin, however, is leaving LTAT to join Lembaga Tabung Haji as its new group managing director and chief executive officer effective from May 6.

He will replace Datuk Nik Mohd Hasyudeen Yusoff, who is stepping down on May 5 after 18 months at the helm.

Zeti's departure as well as that of Amrin will leave a hole at the asset management companies.

Added with rumours that Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan is not keen to renew his three-year contract which  ends this August, it is at least three major positions that need to be filled in soon.

Already several names have been bandied around.

Former Chief Justice Tun Ariffin Zakaria has been rumoured to succeed Zeti at PNB, while Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly, who is now Boustead Holdings Bhd group managing director, will take the helm at LTAT.

Shazalli's purported departure will likely see his deputy Izaddeen Daud taking over the position at Boustead.

As for Khazanah and Shahril Ridza, one of his potential successors is rumoured to be Jeffri Salim Davidson, who is currently Sime Darby Bhd chief executive officer.

If Jeffri Salim is appointed, there is a top vacancy at Sime Darby and the musical chair game among Malaysia's top institutions continues.
