Police: Kedah MB to be issued compound notice for visiting car showroom in June

GEORGE TOWN: A compound notice will be issued to Kedah Mentri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for violating standard operating procedures (SOP) when he visited a car showroom in Juru in June.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the instruction came from the state public prosecutor's office.

"The directive will be conveyed to the Mentri Besar's office soon and further details will be given later.

"An official statement will be issued by the state police headquarters after he receives the compound notice," he said.

The investigation was conducted in accordance with Section 269 of the Penal Code and Regulation 17(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in Local Infectious Areas) Regulations 2021.

Under Section 269, the offence is punishable with a jail term of up to six months, or a fine, or both.

Social media was abuzz after photos and videos went viral, which showed an individual believed to be Muhammad Sanusi test-driving a car on June 5 while the country was under lockdown to contain the spread of Covid-19.
