KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) are open to working with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said this was despite the fact that opposition leaders had branded Bersatu as a traitor for leaving the Pakatan Harapan government in 2020, causing the collapse of the federal administration.
Dr Mahathir, who is Langkawi member of Parliament, said GTA had yet to meet Bersatu leaders to discuss a possible cooperation.
"We are not dismissing the possibility, but there has been no engagement yet," he said at a press conference today.
On working with Anwar, he said he was willing to cooperate with the former parliamentary opposition leader.
"You should ask him. Will he work with me? The problem is he doesn't want to work with me. I'm a very nice man."
Asked about the criteria GTA would set for other parties for a cooperation, Dr Mahathir said as long as they were against Umno, he would accept them.
He was then asked if he was willing to work with those he had branded as traitors, like Bersatu leaders.
"We have to think about which is the bigger traitor. As long as they are against Umno, we can hold discussions."
