PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is looking forward to more bilateral cooperation between Australia and Japan, says Datuk Ewon Benedick.

“We hope to see more two-way initiatives to promote local traders, entrepreneurs and small businesses to expand and build global market networks,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 4).

The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister said that while there are existing ties between Malaysia and these two nations, he will work towards creating better ties between all three nations in the fields of business and economy.

He said the matter of franchising, cooperatives and other related matters were also being looked into.

Benedick had on Friday (Feb 3) received courtesy calls from Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia Dr Justin Lee and Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Takahashi Katsuhiko.

“I hope the diplomatic ties between Malaysia, Australia and Japan can be strengthened,” he added.

He said Malaysia has had good bilateral diplomatic ties with both these countries for many years in various aspects including technology, education, culture and innovation.
