PETALING JAYA: All school outdoor activities have been temporarily banned nationwide to prevent heatstroke following the hot spell.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry issued a circular regarding the ban that came into effect on Wednesday (May 3).

She said that the circular must be adhered to by all school headmasters and principals throughout the country.

"The ban covers all outdoor activities including sports, camping and cross-state events.

"This circular involves both morning and afternoon school sessions and learning is only carried out entirely in the classroom," she said when met at a teachers programme in Tanjong Karang, Kuala Selangor on Thursday (May 4).

She noted that the latest ban covers the new guidelines set by the ministry that provided the relaxation of wearing sportswear at schools due to the current hot weather.

Fadhlina said the ministry would always monitor the weather pattern and temperature conditions with the Meteorological Department.

"For now, the temperature is still uncertain on Level 1 alert.

"If it remains on Level 2 and 3 for three days in a row, we will give flexibility for schools to be closed.

"However, the ministry will follow the recommendations of the Health Ministry in accordance with all guidelines," she added.

Standard 5 Assessment Test = cancelled
LCE/SRP/PT3 = cancelled
MCE/SPM = some groups wants that to be cancelled too
HSE/STPM = only a handful interested because majority enrolled in Matriculation.

Overall, standard is deplorable!
